Who is Alkanna?? She is the executive assistant to the interim CEO! She loves the spot around the corner, which serves the BOMB pizza & soda combo for $5. She's loud and blunt, but don't get it twisted!! You may think she's ratchet, but you'd be the real fool!!

Tickets are on sale now!

Join us tomorrow for the premiere of A Botanical Conversation Performance at @graceexhibitionspace
A performance by Mehdi-Georges Lahlou

In “A Botanical Conversation,” a performance directed by Mehdi-Georges Lahlou, the artists delve into themes of the palm tree, cultural migrations, and queer ecology. With Diwe Augustin-Glave, CHIMI, and Dr Lady J, this artistic experience offers a deep dive into the relationships between humanity and nature.

Diwe Augustin-Glave @foundiwe embodies the palm tree with emotion, offering a poignant reflection on the connections between this ancestral plant and human history. CHIMI @justchimi_ , a singer-songwriter, raises her voice with lyrics by Simon Njami, highlighting the migration of cultural traditions and celebrating the richness of diversity. Dr Lady J @theonlyladyj , a drag queen, brings a unique perspective on queer ecology, encouraging a reevaluation of our relationship with the environment. This performative collaboration initiated by Mehdi-Georges Lahlou invites an immersive experience where different voices blend to create a dialogue of experiences where plants, bodies, and voices are actively liberated.

“A Botanical Conversation” invites the murmurs born under the dome of the Cleveland Botanical Garden to escape, as if the essence of this place were transported to a new audience. These murmurs become stories, real dialogues, in a poetic and immersive experience for the spectators.

May 17, 2024 ! A Botanical Conversation is becoming live in New York City @graceexhibitionspace

Herbarium - 2024 (extract from the full video)

In this video, Diwe Augustin-Glave @foundiwe personifies and embodies the character of the palm tree. In a powerful voice, they articulate the painful history of the palm tree as it connects to the legacies of slavery, resource extraction, and environmental destruction. We are reminded that these histories are deep-seated, extending centuries. By becoming the palm tree, Augustin-Glave narrates how we all have a shared, if varied, connection to the palm tree.

Text @cg.moy

Thanks @arianne.foks and #ghitaserraj who helped me write the voice for the palm tree and @christopher.yggdre for the conversations
