AI Brunch v3.0 for Auckland Startup Week.

A room of quality people and impacting kōrero.

The value of Māori and indigenous approaches to AI. How we control our approach to data. The need for equitable access. Ensuring education is a part of the journey. And making sure we continue to create room for human connection, more important now than ever!

Huge mihi to our kaikōrero and all the quality people who came into the room.

@autuni what a collab! Let’s go again soon 👌🏾

What an awesome morning of kōrero. So good to have some familiar faces back in the whare and welcome some new whānau into the mix too.

An extra special mihi to @dan_walker_official for leading today’s kōrero and to our speakers Isaac at @weareriver.nz @mihikeitatibble at @tiahomaiconsultancy and @halavahaakolo at @fourshellskava for sharing your pūrakau, whakaaro & mātauranga with us all. Appreciate all your mahi whānau 💚

OCT 14TH OPEN MIC THATS US!!

We're excited to bring you this month's feature @zechsoakai

"Zech Soakai is a member of his villages first and foremost. In other cultural contexts he’d be introduced as a multi-hyphenate storyteller, poet, educator, researcher, producer, theatre maker, curator… but in this space he’s just someone who tries his best everyday to traverse his professional responsibilities, creative ambitions and his lifelong work of being the best son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew and more and more recently unc.

He released his debut poetry book ‘For All We Know’ last year, has guest curated for Auckland Writers Festival for the last two years & just finished writing and presenting his first play, ‘Koe Tatali’anga: The Waiting Room’ through The Village Collective at the beginning of this month."

@cocoshakim on MC and @lu_ani02 on decks so you know it's gonna be another fire night🔥 pull-up to jam on the mic or just chill and enjoy the talent✨

Artwaka is a voyaging event series and collaborative platform led by NDINA Gallery combining contemporary Oceanic arts with intentional space for kava-talanoa 🤝

Rooted in the shared significance of ‘waka’ - premium noble kava roots in Fijian tradition and the traditional canoe in Māori culture - the program celebrates Pacific heritage and contemporary art as a living, connected force.

NDINA is thrilled to partner with host @fourshellskava for Artwaka’s maiden berth in Aotearoa. A New Zealand kava cultural institution, Four Shells is a rooted hub for Pasifika creatives and we are honoured to share your space in celebration of Fiji Day 2026.

We are also excited to announce our collaboration with the Fiji Craft Society bringing together heritage artisans with contemporary artists for a dynamic group exhibition and series of evening talanoa sessions from 6-10 October exploring the vibrant stories of Fiji’s visual culture 🇫🇯

A heartfelt thank you to the people who helped make Tuihala 2026 possible!

We’re so grateful to Aunty Tommy’s, Four Shells Kava Lounge, Aunty Ani & Rohi, Lavea Vania Wolfgramm, and Jody Cameron for your generous support, time, knowledge and care throughout the retreat.

From creating spaces for connection and reflection, to sharing culture, knowledge and wisdom, each of you contributed to the experience our sisters were able to have at Tuihala 🌺

Thank you for helping us create a space where our sisters could pause, connect, reflect and remember The Greatness We Carry 💛
