Friends of FLORA deserve a permanent place on our feed.

So many of the businesses and partners who support this event are local businesses, and asking them to be part of what makes FLORA so special has never been about asking for things for free, because time and resources are valuable.

A dear friend recently reminded me that a community is more than an event. It is a group of people connected by shared interests, values, and a sense of place.

I am incredibly proud of the community that has grown around FLORA, and of the one I have worked to build here over the last decade. It is a community fueled by supporting one another, championing education and creativity, showing up for each other, and leaving egos at the door.

Every year, I try to infuse a little bit of what makes Nantucket so special into FLORA. That means bringing the people, products, and businesses I genuinely love into our attendees’ experience. Sometimes that looks like a partnership. Sometimes it means purchasing from a local business. Sometimes it means introducing 25 people who have traveled from all corners of the country to a place or person I hope they will remember long after they leave, and support their craft at home.

FLORA takes an entire year to plan, and next week we get to welcome those 25 people to our island and share a little of what makes this place so extraordinary.

We could not do it without our community around us.

To our Friends of FLORA: thank you for believing in what we are building, for showing up, and for helping us share a little piece of home with everyone who comes here.

Consider this your excuse to take the long way through town.

From 9 to 12 October, Cobblestones & Commerce turns a weekend of island shopping into a little Nantucket tradition. Pick up a Passport, collect stamps as you make your way through participating shops and perhaps discover a new favourite along the way.
We’ve shared a few stops worth making. The rest is best found while wandering.

Make a weekend of it and call The Brant home between stops.

10 years ago today, I laid eyes on Brant Point and Nantucket for the very first time.

We had no agenda. No influencer itinerary. No TikTok checklist of the 10 things we had to see, eat or photograph. We just got on the ferry with open hearts and decided to explore.

I had lost my mom, Gloria, that summer, and my heart was pretty broken. Something about Nantucket was pulling me there, and I think even then I knew that getting away, wandering around and discovering somewhere completely new might be exactly what I needed.

We walked. We explored. We popped into places that looked fun. I grabbed a copy of the Nantucket Black Book at the Hy-Line Cruises office, a great little guide being created by a woman named @hollyruthfinigan who I didn’t know and certainly couldn’t have imagined would one day become my friend.

That little detail still gets me.

Because 10 years later, Holly is my dear friend. Nantucket has brought people, friendships, businesses, opportunities and experiences into my life that I never could have imagined when I stepped off that ferry.

And now, exactly a decade later, I’m getting ready to bring an incredible group of women over to this island to do what feels remarkably similar to what I did that first time: explore, connect, celebrate the people and businesses that make Nantucket so special, and hopefully leave with a little more than we arrived with.

Maybe that’s the real magic of travel. Sometimes you think you’re just going somewhere. You have no idea it’s about to become part of your story.

I often say I don’t have a house on Nantucket - but somewhere over these last 10 years, it has became a home.

And it all started with this view. 💙
