Highlights from Talk It Out, Walk It Out 2026! Remembering Cherubs’ work to advance the health and well-being of Black women in our community began three years ago when we learned about the disparities (preventable differences in health outcomes) Black Women face. Talk It Out, Walk It Out has grown from a one-day event designed to raise awareness to the official kickoff event for Black Women’s Health Month (BWHM), a month-long series of community-led activations across Metro Detroit. This year brought an especially exciting achievement: Mayor Mary Sheffield officially declared August as Black Women’s Health Month in Detroit! We are so proud about the growth of the initiative and how it’s been embraced by the community. Thank you to everyone who showed up to engage in the conversations, raise awareness, and uplift the community.

The kickoff event may be behind us, but Black Women’s Health Month is just getting started. Visit our website to view the official BWHM community calendar and find out how you can support Black women’s health throughout the month of August: rememberingcherubs.org/bwhm

📍 Safari Blue Experience in Zanzibar! 🩵

This was a day of adventure that almost made several of us miss our reservations at The Rock Restaurant but we will save that for another post.

This experience includes the items listed below and some things aren’t shown in the video:

💙 Helpful guides
🩵 Visit to a lagoon, stunning sandbank and private island
💙 Snorkeling + gear
🩵 Delicious fruits 🍉🥥🍊🍍 while enjoying the sandbank
💙 Swahili barbecue lunch with seafood, chicken, vegetable curry rice, potatoes and salad
🩵 And shopping on the private island of local crafts and designs.

Top Tips for this Experience:
🔹Be sure to shop around for the best pricing. It can vary between tour companies (like more than double)
🔹Wear swim shoes some of us who had difficulty (like Kendra 😫) problems would’ve been solved with swim shoes.
🔹Bring cash to go shopping on private island and to tip the captain, chef and guides.
🔹Be prepared for low tide and having to walk to the beach/shore from and to the boat
🔹 Enjoy this unique cultural experience.

It was a fun day and this is a must see and do experience while in Zanzibar!

Remembering our Stone town Experience in Zanzibar 🙌🏾

After visiting Nakupenda Island Sandbank, we arrived to the waterfront area in Stone Town and ate at 6 degree South Zanzibar Restaurant.

The service and food were excellent. The food was so delicious that almost everyone got seconds or took some to go.

On our menu we had Calamari fritters, spicy vegetable samosas, Roasted chicken with garlic and chili, Zanzibar fish curry, oven roasted beef with black pepper sauce, oven roasted potatoes, steamed rice, roasted seasonal vegetables and salad.

Once inside they made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Great ambiance with a beautiful view. We highly recommend this restaurant.

After lunch, we began our custom tour which shared the history and culture of Stone Town. The meaning behind the various beautiful doors, why it’s called Stone Town and more. One of the highlights of our tour was we visited the slave market memorial (which was truly powerful and an eye opening memorial).

It was a great day for the 18 out of the 40 who picked The Stone town Experience + Nakupenda Island Sandbank. We will share about the other option the remaining travelers selected in another post and they too said they had a great time.

This is one of the ways we allow you to travel differently with us in our group experiences. While it is a set group itinerary, you will have some options and ways to customize your time away. 🙌🏾

If you are planning a Zanzibar Experience or will be leaving soon for Zanzibar we highly recommend a custom Stone Town Experience.

😍 Nakupenda means I Love You in Swahili and once you see this beautiful sandbank island in the middle of the ocean in Zanzibar you can’t help but feel all the love!

It was a short 20-30 minute ride from Stone Town on a traditional local boat.

On the sandbank you can enjoy the clear turquoise water, go snorkeling (we heard the underwater world is spectacular), enjoy a local seafood lunch and more! 18 out of the 40 travelers did this experience in conjunction with a custom group tour that also included lunch (we will share more on that later). So we didn’t snorkel or have lunch. (**This was an included experience option. Others chose this or swim with turtles + beach experience)

We did take plenty of pictures and videos (these are from our experience). We enjoyed fresh fruit and some got a henna tattoo for about $10. You could’ve even gotten your hair braided for way less than in the USA. 👀

This is a must visit when you come to Zanzibar, you can do it in conjunction with other experiences. Or you can just do a day visit there as a standalone experience. You choose.

One tip is wear or bring swim/water shoes for getting in and out of the boat. Also wear clothes that you don’t mind if it gets a little wet especially if it’s long.

Don’t think twice about it and add this to your Zanzibar Experience.

We looked GOOD on our last night in Bora Bora! 🙌🏾

This YV sponsored dinner event in the French Restaurant at Conrad Bora Bora Nui was a great way to end our 2023 Tahiti and Bora Bora Experience with 15 amazing travelers. 🔥

Our color theme for the night was turquoise and we may be bias but we looked great and definitely turned heads from the resort team to the people on the resort. (you know we love a color coordinated event!)

If you cannot tell, we love to see our community take up space in these beautiful places and luxury resorts. Showing everyone that we belong there. And not just belong there but we deserve epic and amazing experiences all over this world! ✈️
