A short ferry ride is all it takes to return to Goree Island, one of the points of export from Senegal. I visited in 2019, everyone in Dakar was so hospitable and hustling with a gentleman’s grace.

I knew I wanted blue frames as I was making this collage, so I wanted to create a photo that wasn’t just a moment trapped in a container.

If I’m somewhere with a beach and some ocean, I gotta go before the trip gets started. I visit the beach to get grounded even though it feels like I’m staring at the edge of the planet. it’s crazy to fathom what it’s like to be put on a boat and you just never see your edge of the planet again, just hope to see the other side.

I love that some people saw the framing style as something they didn’t know you could do in photography and were happy that it was done.

Officially one week since the Atlanta Art Fair 2026!

Photography by Stephanie Hanlon | @literary.lens

What an incredible experience at the @atlartfair . From curating Atlanta: A Cultural Record to collaborating with Be Kind ATL on the official Atlanta Art Fair merchandise, produced by @ktatl_
this experience was a beautiful reflection of art, community, and collaboration.

I’m incredibly grateful to the artists who trusted me with their work, the collectors who invested in their creativity, and everyone who visited us at Booth A20.

A special thank you to the Atlanta Art Fair for believing in this concept and giving us the opportunity to bring Atlanta: A Cultural Record to life again following its debut during the FIFA World Cup. Thank you to Savannah Stephens of Be Kind ATL for the partnership and to everyone who continues to support my curatorial vision and the work of Artistic Logistics.

Creating more opportunities for artists, fostering economic development through arts and culture, connecting communities, and contributing to Atlanta’s evolving creative economy will always be at the heart of what I do. Art is more than an experience. It’s an investment in our artists, our neighborhoods, and the cultural future of our city.

Curating Excellence. Building Community. From A-P.

And that’s a wrap on @atlartfair 2026 at Pullman Yards! I’m so excited to have this work, ‘ Atlanta Index #15 ' by @crlzceramics and @miragevanguard from Framing By Design (@framingbydesignatl) as the newest and smallest but mighty addition to my collection.

It’s a part of a a series of fifteen original miniature works inspired by the city I call home. Each painting is paired with a hand-formed ceramic frame, creating a collection of intimate, functional objects that blur the line between artwork and a keepsake. A study in place, craftsmanship, and collaboration - made in Atlanta, by Atlanta artists.

As a fellow Atlanta born and bred artist and collector, this means a lot to me. Thank you @p_hollywood @bekind.atl for bringing it all together. 🖼️🖤

Day 2 of the Atlanta Art Fair @atlartfair

Grateful to share this moment with Mayor Andre Dickens, Adriane V. Jefferson, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and her incredible team.

From supporting the work I’ve been building in Castleberry Hill to showing up for me here at the Atlanta Art Fair, your support is felt. It means so much to have the City stand behind the work, the artists, and the communities I care so deeply about.

Thank you for continuing to show up and support the work.

We’re here all weekend at the Atlanta Art Fair! Come see us at Booth A20, Be Kind ATL, experience Atlanta: A Cultural Record, shop artist-made goods, and come get your official Atlanta Art Fair merch.

Saturday, October 3 | 11 AM–7 PM
Sunday, October 4 | 11 AM–6 PM

Come see us at Booth A20.

And on the first day I watched the people, got the lay of the land and felt the work as it was being experienced.

I have documented dozens of families around Atlanta and taken hundreds of film images of them in their homes using my fully mechanical Rolleiflex as part of my Lost Family series. This is my favorite image in the series, but it’s never been among those selected into exhibits, that is until @andi.mckenzie2 of the @carlosmuseum selected it for display at the @atlantaphotographygroup booth in @atlartfair in October. Framed by the great @miragevanguard with @framingbydesignatl Thank you all.

I recently changed the name of this image in order for it to stand on its own, to “Family as an Island,” which speaks to how American society has pushed families onto islands to themselves where once we had villages to provide mutual care, creating an isolating situation for children and caretakers. This is a real story, this is our collective story as a human family.
