Framingham-born poet and Guggenheim Fellow Edgar Kunz read poems from his two books - 𝑇𝑎𝑝 𝑂𝑢𝑡 (2019) and 𝐹𝑖𝑥𝑒𝑟 (2023) - on Oct. 20 at the Heineman Ecumenical Center.

Kunz was featured in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝑌𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑟 in Nov. 2022 for his poem, “Piano,” and in June 2023 for his poem, “Therapy.”

During the Q&A, Kunz spoke about how being featured in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝑌𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑟 ultimately did not affect his writing process going forward. “I found myself back facing the empty page like I always do. … What is sacred is the making. … The relationship between you and the page is always what will sustain you during a long life of writing.”

Hosted by the English Department and the Arts & Ideas Series, the event reached a large audience, both in-person and on Zoom, and was a great success!

Rams Read: Margaret Hoar, a sophomore English major with a concentration in Secondary Education, photographed in front of the Heineman Ecumenical Center.

“I’m currently reading 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑏𝑢𝑟𝑦 𝑇𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑠 by Geoffrey Chaucer for Dr. Kristen Abbott Bennett’s ‘British Literature I: Old English to 1680’ class.”

“I love how Chaucer was able to write scathing, satirical critiques of the society he lived in, but dress them up in enough humor and plausible deniability to avoid being sentenced to death for it.”

“I love reading in those little upholstered desk-chairs in the library. I also love reading next to any ol’ window when it’s raining out.”

FSUPD reminds all Framingham State University students, faculty, and staff to stay alert and practice pedestrian safety when crossing campus roadways.

Pedestrians 🚶‍♀️🚶:

✅ Use designated crosswalks whenever possible.
✅ Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
✅ Make eye contact with approaching drivers before stepping into the roadway.
✅ Put your phone away and avoid distractions while crossing.
✅ Never assume a vehicle will stop, even when you have the right of way.

Drivers 🚘:

✅ Slow down near crosswalks and campus walkways.
✅ Yield to pedestrians as required by law.
✅ Stay alert, avoid distractions, and be prepared to stop.

⚠️ A few extra seconds can make all the difference. Whether you’re walking to class, heading to work, or traveling across campus, make safety a priority.

Let’s work together to keep our Framingham State University community safe! 💙💛

Be Alert. Be Visible. Cross Safely.

🌟 TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MATTHEW & KEITH 🌟

These two Framingham State students have jumped right into coaching T-ball, flag football, and now Beginner Fishing—and we’re proud to have them on the SNL Youth Academy team! ❤️🖤

From the start, Matthew and Keith have been dependable, hardworking, and ready to help. They take pride in their work and care about the experience each child has in their programs.

During a recent fishing class, their patience and teamwork really shone as they helped a young angler practice with adaptive fishing equipment. They worked together, offered encouragement, and left with a shared goal: help him catch a fish at the next class! 🎣

His family’s message afterward said so much: “Oh they were fantastic.” Even better? He wanted to practice during the week before his next lesson. ❤️

That excitement is why we do what we do. Every child deserves to feel included, supported, and eager to come back.

Matthew and Keith, thank you for bringing care, commitment, and heart to your coaching. You’re already making a difference!

This is why we do what we do…Every kid deserves to have fun!
