Just kiddinggg! 😁

Super late post of our Tinghun Ceremony this past Oct 26.

If you have no idea what a Tinghun is, neither did I before a few years ago.

Here's what I know:

A "Tinghun" is a Chinese engagement ceremony where a couple formally announces their intention to get married.
Not sure who makes up the rules but they vary slightly depending on which "expert" you ask and how traditional you want to be. *Note: the more rules you follow, the more money you'll spend

Things to prepare include: gold jewelry, watches, certain number of clothes (for the female), and a Sinna (Chinese barrel filled with fruits, eggs, Misua, pigs feet, chocolate, and more)

You'll need a Tinghun coordinator, backdrop, host, venue, banquet menu, loot bags for all guests, 2 Tinghun cakes, 2 bouquets of flowers, a lot of angpaos (red envelopes) for all participants, and other details such as suits, dresses, photographers, guest list, and role assignments
.
Summary of our ceremony:
-Host welcomed and started program
-Groom(me) introduced and entered carrying flowers
-4 male family members followed carrying barrels with gifts -VIP family members entered in pairs
-Bride(Frances) introduced and entered walking backwards accompanied by "lucky older lady"
-Juice and candy was served to VIPs
-Bride and groom exchanged coursages
-We exchanged jewelry and gifts presented by key family members
-Rings were exchanged and worn
-Bride and groom introduced VIP family members to each other
-Then we went to a special dining room to eat 2 eggs and misua (using special chopsticks, bowls, and cups we had to buy/prepare)

Then opening prayer, banquet lunch (so good!), disbursed loot bags (apples, chocolates, misua, cookies) to all guests, roses to all single ladies, and took LOTS of pictures.

Then my bro and I had to carry the Tinghun cakes and walk around the lobby of Shangrila (super embarrassing!) Then photoshoots

Tinghuns aren't mandatory. It can be stressful to plan and can also be pricey

But I'm glad Frances and I were able to have this experience while honoring our heritage and families.
