All my QUEENS out there, you know how a few times in your life you will just have these nights where the energy somehow allllllllllll convenes in a special way and you, well; you just feel your prettiest and strongest. Thanks to a whole bunch of incredible and talented people last Thursday was one of those nights for me! The IMMENSELY gifted @lionel_makeup did my makeup (I mean, COME ONNNNNNN.), and my Beloved and super talented @rfbnyc Roberto did my hair. My generous and kind sister @katie_od_f Katie had gifted me the session with Lionel!!!! Annnnnnd Duran Duran energized my whole soul! To top it off my husband felt well enough to join me and take me out on the town! Not to mention, my amazing surgeon and medical team who returned to me my ability to move and dance via my hip replacement! Oh alsoooooo the best stylist in town, #MeghanMcStylist ; really nailed it with the chemistry of these pieces. I’m Timbrel Chyatee and I’m the founder and head designer of CHYATEE. I began this fashion journey over 5 years ago and each year my love for handmade fashion and home wear grows. When I began my design journey I wanted to create a fashion brand that encompasses handmade, well made, unique designs that have cultural influence, especially my Indian culture. I chose to design pieces that incorporate ancient forms of weaving, dying, craftsmanship and embroidery. Despite popular beliefs you do not have to be cultured or of an Indian background to wear CHYATEE, just like you do not have to be Italian or French to wear Italian or French made designers. It’s not about the places the products were made, but more about the techniques and materials used for the handmade products and fashion. During the start of the gilded age the materials and textiles from India, China and Japan were considered the finest textiles in the world and were only worn by the elite and upper-class in society. The silks, cottons, block-prints, indigo dyed products etc were traded all over the world for a high value, but specifically in the western world. To buy Indian made fashion meant investing in high-end, well made designs that are unique and flawless. Unfortunately in late 1800’s sweatshops were built throughout Asia that exploited the arts, fashion, artisans and labor world. Turning the art form of fashion from high-end to fast and cheap. It wrecked the arts, it wrecked the meaning of high-end wear and it stole so many beautiful forms of fashion from the East. For many years after and even to present day the ‘made in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China etc’ tags have been interpreted as fast, cheap and easy to create. What CHYATEE is trying to establish in the fashion world is the importance of well-made and high-end fashion to be made in India and beyond, like it once was, before exploitation, appropriation and devaluing of DESIGNED IN INDIA. Bringing back the prestige and superiority of clothing made in India by artisans and their craftsmanship.
