At the end of May, a group of UTRGV dance majors had the opportunity to travel to New York City alongside Professors Gamborino, Garcia, and Laurenzi to participate in the GIBNEY Learning & Leadership Group Program. During this immersive experience, students and faculty engaged in a wide range of movement classes, panel discussions, workshops, and professional training opportunities. The program included movement classes in AfroKorp, Countertechnique, and Contemporary Floorwork (Nagare Technique), as well as discussions centered on Navigating from Student to Professional. Participants also attended professional development workshops such as The Mental Art of Performing and The Business of Dance. In addition to the Gibney programming, the group had the opportunity to train at renowned New York institutions, including The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Steps on Broadway. The five-day experience was filled with learning, research, artistic growth, and exploration of the city and its vibrant dance community. The research, experiences, and artistic outcomes from this opportunity will be presented at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex on January 8 and 9, 2027 We want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported this transformative experience, including the UTRGV College of Fine Arts, Dance Department Chair Dana Shackelford, and Professors Garcia and Laurenzi. A very special thank you goes to Professor Gamborino, whose dedication and intensive work over the past two years made this opportunity possible. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Amy Miller, Creative Director of Learning & Leadership Group Programs at Gibney, for supporting our faculty, helping bridge New York City with the Rio Grande Valley, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection and growth. Finally, thank you to every artist and professional who shared their knowledge, artistry, and time with our students and faculty. Your investment in this experience has left a lasting impact on our community!

Part 2 💗 | 52 & 10 Years Strong 🥂 The magic continued - with an outfit change, of course… a little rockstar moment in my own mind. ✨ I “produced” my party like an awards show - asking friends to come as stars, to rock the Pink Carpet, and to dress like they were headed to their favorite awards show. From Oscars glam to Grammys bold, or even Kids’ Choice fun - every vibe, every style. All to celebrate life, strength, friendship, and 10 years of survivorship. 💗 I also created (with a little help from AI 😉) the Denise Awards bingo game - every guest had a square that matched who they are or who they are to me, and it was so much fun watching everyone connect, laugh, and figure out who was who. It was truly a winning night for all, and I am so grateful - and so excited for my next era and everything still to come. 🥂✨ Deepest thanks to my college friends at @taogrouphospitality (@richdthomas ) for bringing this vision to life in such a stunning setting. 📸 @photos_by_jb

52 & 10 Years Strong 🥂 | Part 1 My celebration was pure magic. 💗 What these past 10 years have taught me is simple: health, time, safety - and each other - are what truly matter. A room full of love, laughter, music, and connection - exactly what I dreamed of and more. From the Pink Carpet to every little moment in between, it was all unforgettable. Watching my worlds come together, seeing friends connect & celebrate - it meant everything to me. Celebrating 52 and 10 years of survivorship surrounded by so many friends and family was incredibly special. 💗 Still smiling. Still feeling it. Thank you for making the night so unforgettable. I love you all. A reminder to celebrate every day - because every day is worth it. Continuing our RDA x Dancio series, we’re spotlighting “Make Dance Your Business,” a module from the Teacher Certification Course with producer, educator, and entrepreneur @frankirmser 💼✨ This module offered a complete guide to building and sustaining a career in dance: from developing your online presence and marketing yourself, to navigating fundraising, networking, and the commercial industry. It also addressed essential topics like managing finances, health insurance, and self-care, giving teachers and directors practical tools to support both their artistry and their livelihoods. This testimonial reflects on how the module reshaped one educator’s approach to finances and career sustainability — a reminder that understanding the business side of dance is just as vital as the art itself.
