Wie steht ihr zu Motorsport? Eher Team kleine süße Motorräder🛵 oder doch die großen Rennen🏎🏁? Die Werke in Raum sechs unserer aktuellen Ausstellung MIND THE GAP verbindet vor allem die Faszination für Geschwindigkeit und Bewegung. So stehen sich hier neben der Plastik „Rocket“ von Stefan Strumbel auch das Gemälde „Cascos“ von Luciano Calderon @lucianocalderon31 und die Plastik „MK8-145 Neken Punch“ von Frédéric Platéus @fred_plateus gegenüber🖼.

Geprägt von seiner Kindheit und Jugend, die Luciano Calderon (geb. 1986) sowohl in Bolivien als auch in Bern verbracht hat, entwickelte er mit der Zeit einen prägnanten Stil: knallige Farben, Einflüsse des urbanen Lebens, soziale und politische Themen sowie seine persönliche Geschichte zwischen den verschiedenen Kulturen📖. Das hier gezeigte Werk spiegelt all das wider und fängt das Lebensgefühl einer latein-amerikanischen Stadt ein: schnell, bunt und mit vielen Motorrädern🌆.

Die Werke von Frédéric Platéus (geb. 1976 in Liège) versammeln oft eine ganze Bandbreite an Stilen zwischen Street Art, Motorsport-Ästhetik und Pop-Kultur. Mit verschiedenen Techniken, Farben und Materialien druckt, schneidet und designt Platéus seine Plastiken und schafft so zu Teil auch ironische und humorvolle Referenzen zu Technik, Motorsport und Sci-Fi🏍🛸. Ein wichtiges Werkzeug seiner Kunst ist die Abstraktion. So können in den Werken von Platéus oft bei genauem Hinsehen spezifische Gegenstände erkannt werden🌁.

Frédéric Platéus — Hybrid Structures, FORM, 2024.

Working from the artist’s photographic archive, AI-generated images propose structures and exhibition situations that exist within the image. Red and green surfaces give way to a reduced black line: each version reorganises the relationship between object, wall and room.

The space is part of the proposition.

The Illegal Club: second round of artists — II / III
Opening 9.10, from 19:00, TICK TACK Antwerp.

For its opening, The Illegal Club extends from the shelter to the entire building. On the ground floor and mezzanine, more than 60 artists living and working in Belgium each show a studio work made off the record: an experiment, an early work, a sidetrack from the main line of a practice.

Known for his explorations of industrial graphics connected to the world of sport, particularly the intricate designs found on the soles of sports shoes. His work transforms functional patterns designed for traction, grip, and stability into complex visual systems, exploring the tension between precision and chance.

For this series, Platéus uses the reliefs of selected sports shoe soles as graphic matrices, pressing them into masses of colored polymer clay. The industrial patterns are transferred into a soft and malleable material, where pressing, compressing, and deforming introduce distortions, irregularities, and unexpected visual accidents.

Framed against recycled rubber backgrounds, the unique imprints evoke chewing gum pressed into asphalt — familiar urban traces transformed into vibrant, tactile bas-reliefs that oscillate between the organic and the manufactured.

On this occasion, Platéus presents a series of unique polymer clay imprints.

On my recent trip to NYC I had to check out ALLEY CATS @ruttkowski68 (rain couldn’t stop me) I love that this gallery is literally located down a side alley that you need to seek out if you want to experience great art and the entire concept of the show embraces street culture. The underground. And beyond? they asked roster artists to invite external artists to participate that they respect and admire ❤️

My favorite works? @toddjamesreas @buck_dennis @francescoigorydeiana @lucianocalderon31 Bringing some of this inspiration back into the studio with me 🎹🎨

Behind the scenes with @rampa_keinemusik in Berlin — at the @keinemusikcrue studio that doubles as label, office, store, and TEILE headquarters.

He co-founded the collective in 2009 with @andmeandyou , @adamport and @reznik_keinemusik . Started @teile.life in 2016 by modifying effect pedals. Built his own speakers from leftover wood in a childhood friend’s dad’s carpentry. Now it’s a factory with 40 employees.
He has no system for organising his music and doesn’t plan to change that. His mum came up with the name
keinemusik. He likes skiing. „Success came in little steps,“ he says. „We just did what we always did.“

As a young graffiti writer in the early 90s, I would have never thought that I would stand in a museal-like exhibition, that I co-curated, of the magazine that influenced me deeply in my youth.

But here we stand, 30 years later with Adrian Nabi, the founder of @backjumps magazine. Surrounded by his archive, works by legendary icons of our style writing culture & new contemporary positions. Asking: Where do we stand now & what is our reality today.

This again, is a 360 degree moment for me, after the concept & design for the BACKJUMPS 1994–2000 book project, this is almost even more crazy to process.

Very happy to share this moment, with Adrian Nabi and my co-curators Lukas Feireiss, Daniel Künzler & the fantastic COLAB team, who all had a significant role to bring this show to life. Additional gratitude to Ruediger Glatz for initiating and documenting the project.
