It's time to dip into the fascinating world of seaweed. My latest article for the FLOW issue of @selvedgemagazine explores the work of a selection of " artist-designers like Violaine Buet (who) are meeting the world of seaweed with wonder and respect, allowing themselves to be guided by what she calls her “research allies.”

As @molesworthandbird, @iona.maker @jasminelinington_textiles @superfolk @dulcie @zee.fier @studio_nienkehoogvliet anneboermans and @violaine_buet demonstrate, an exciting shift is taking place:

"The quest to find natural, sustainable alternatives to traditional textiles is opening eyes, unlocking imagination, and unleashing possibilities. “I increasingly feel the desire to shape this material into form, into clothing, costume, décor,” Buet says with enthusiasm.

Hoogvliet proclaims: “Seaweed is the new colour.” Like Margaret Gatty, full of wonder, the seaweed textile innovators of today are “free, bold, joyous and at home” hunting on the shore . "
