“Turner braids my hair in the morning and prays to send me off into the world with the strength of his words and wishes to keep me safe. The braid lays down the spine which keeps me connected to the earth, and protects. My braid is an extension of my hopes dreams wishes aspirations, and keeps me grounded and connected to my ancestors. It’s like an additional sense. Turner gets to perform the braiding since he is my partner and soulmate. I only let him braid my hair along with family. The reasons I don’t let others touch or braid is because I believe they can pass on energy and energy doesn’t always have the best intentions. It’s also a very sacred thing that turner and I can do each day and have that moment and quality time together. It’s a sacred time.”
