We tried the Freeaim VR Shoes at Sim Gaming Expo 2026, and walking through VR without going anywhere takes some getting used to 👀

One of the more unique pieces of VR tech we got to try at the show.

Still working my way through all the Sim Gaming Expo footage because apparently I took approximately a lions share of pictures and videos. 😂

There were SO many vendors I wanted to check out, and a few I never even got the chance to demo (it was me, I'm the problem).

Typical VR treadmills are fun and all, but they come with steep costs and take up a lot of room in any home. That’s where the Freeaim VR shoes come in!

These oversized Birkenstock-looking sandals on my feet allow me to walk in place and control my in-game character’s movement. Essentially, these are mini treadmills on your feet with electrified rollers that move at a certain speed depending on the pace you walk or run.

Although I did have to sign a waiver to use it, it turns out I didn't fall flat on my face. In fact, it just takes a couple of steps to get in the rhythm and soon enough you could be exploring VR environments in a whole new way. That is if you have about $1,000 to upgrade your VR rig 😳
