Join us for a screening of the film Seeds for Liberation on Tuesday 10/27 at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:30) at the Bartell Community Theatre in Madison. Afterwards, there will be a live Q&A with the Director of the film and a representative from Freedom Inc. As a filmmaker, Director Matthew Solomon wanted to center Palestinian voices while also situating their liberation within a broader legacy of anti-imperialist and decolonial movements — from Black resistance in the U.S. to Chicano activism and beyond. We are excited for the opportunity to discuss this film and how it connects to our collective struggles against police violence, ICE aggression, and political repression here in Wisconsin.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the Bartell Theatre’s website. If funds are a barrier, reach out to us (@codepinkmadison) and we can coordinate getting you ticket(s).

Tip: If you screenshot this image, go to your Photos app, and press and hold on the QR code it will take you to the ticket purchasing link. This works for apple and android phones.

Take action: Email zap!

Vote NO to agenda item 79! Defend police oversight!

Tuesday, October 20th

#madisonwi #uwmadison #commoncouncil #independentmonitor #police

Email your alder!

SCRIPT:

Hello,

My name is [your name], and I am a [student, faculty member, alumnus] at UW-Madison. I urge you to vote no on agenda item 79 of the Common Council meeting on October 20, 2026.

In the wake of the police killing of Corey Ruiz as well as the 2024 death of Richard Lee Johnson in police custody, now is not the time to weaken civilian oversight of the police by firing the Independent Monitor. I feel deeply that the City of Madison ought to hold the police accountable for abuses of power that have continued despite community outrage. Instead, our elected officials have shown that they intend to continue siding with the police in these instances.

Students and community members want justice for Corey Ruiz, Richard Lee Johnson, and all victims of police violence. The Office of the Independent Police Monitor should be strengthened rather than weakened.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Southeast Asians are the Margin of Victory!

SEA-Action is excited to launch SEAvote.com to prepare our Southeast Asian communities for the midterm elections.

Primary elections across the countries showed campaign victories leading by razor-thin margins. In Michigan and California, El-Sayed and Vang pushed against the Democratic Party establishment, refusing corporate donors and standing on platforms like Medicare for All and curbing ICE funding. Each led their primaries by 1%. Districts with a significant population of Southeast Asians can play a major role in deciding elections. We can determine the margin of victory.

Our website, SEAvote.com, includes our platforms, our five priority issues, and information about voting rights. We will also announce our campaign endorsements as we make them. Our interpreters are working to provide audio for Hmong, Khmer, Lao, and Viet speakers. We will continue to add new materials and updates throughout the month.

Please visit our website and follow us on social media for the latest updates leading up to November 3rd!

Assata Shakur was born this month, and today we commemorate and celebrate her:

Dear Assata,
As a Southeast Asian organization, we honor you and that of the Black Liberation movement as a guiding force in our own struggle for dignity and liberation. As a community shaped by displacement and imperialist violence, we see ourselves in your resistance and carry your spirit forward in our work.

You taught us that diaspora is not only loss, but connection, and that our struggles are bound together across borders. Because of you, we understand that our liberation is intertwined.

In this moment of continued attack on those who dare to stand up and speak up, you also shows us what courage looks like in the face of injustice. May your spirit be free now and always.

We thank our survivors who have been brave enough to share their stories to uplift the critical work we’re doing here at @tsevkajsiab.

These stories are not uncommon—many of our sisters, mothers, aunties, and grandmas in the Hmong community have experienced abuse with little resources to leave these violent cycles.

TKS (formerly CHAN-BOF) is spinning off to become our own nonprofit, and we need your support to make this possible. Every monetary donation, share, and volunteer effort is a step towards addressing and ending gender-based violence in the Hmong community.

Donate to our fundraiser, Hearts in Harmony, today at linktr.ee/tsevkajsiab (LINK IN BIO).

The launch of our first IFOS on the African continent, our Afro-International Feminist Organizing School (AFRO-IFOS), brought a powerful reminder: We are stronger together!

Gathering in Kenya 🌍🇰🇪this past week with organizers from across Africa, the Americas, and West Asia, AFRO-IFOS connected people through stories, food, and song — embodying Ubuntu, a foundational principle based on interdependence and recognition of our shared humanity. 🧶

For many years, we’ve brought feminist leaders together for training and deep political development at IFOS. We know that no one moves in isolation. We must all work in solidarity to weave movements, build power, and nurture collective liberation. ❤️‍🔥

As one participant from Uganda put it: “If you want to go far, go together.”
