🥪 The Art of the Sh1t Sandwich 🎨
Notes, egos, and the fine line between help and hindrance…

Join Paddy Hayes (Tua Films), Sioned Wiliam (Comm Ed, Producer and Novelist), Mike Ellen (Freedom Scripted Entertainment Ltd), Sinéad Stimpfig (Virgin Media Ireland), and Bill Macleod (MG ALBA) for a deep dive into the industry's most delicate balancing act. ⚖️

From the light-touch “have you thought about…?” to the full-blown page-one rewrite, the notes process is where creative ambition meets editorial reality—and occasionally comes unstuck. We take a look at the messy business of feedback: when it elevates an idea, when it flattens it, and how quickly collaboration can tip into creative tug-of-war.

What’s a commissioner’s duty to shape and safeguard, and when does that slide into overreach? When is a producer protecting the work—and when are they just being a bit precious? And in a world of tight turnarounds, big expectations and competing priorities, who really has the final say?

✨ In total shock at news of this nomination by @ivorsacademy for Best Televison Soundtrack, for ‘Summerwater’. I’m delighted to say the very least. ✨

Writing the score was a dream, and I was already content with that experience. Being given such creative freedom by writer John Donnelly and director Robert McKillop, and working with @nikknakki @freedomscripted and @isaac_allaway and all the rest of team, was a joy in itself.

The beautiful cello you hear all over this soundtrack is by my talented friend, composer and multi-instrumentalist @alexander.painter 🎵

Huge thanks to @invadarecords for supporting and releasing the soundtrack digitally last November. Mastered by @jamestrevascus

Thanks to @sonymusicpubuk for sorting the application. 🙏

And so many thanks to my manager Steve @randommusicmgmt and my agent Hamish at @first_artists_management

Looking forward to celebrating this nomination on 21 May. ✨

Anika Boyle is a Polish-Scottish, award-winning actress and the star of the film Day Drinker, where she plays the lead child role alongside @johnnydepp and Penelope Kruź. She also stars in the series Summerwater, marking her television debut which premiered on @channel4 on November 16.

The series is an adaptation of the novel by Sarah Moss, directed by Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton. The script were written by @propershameful . The ensemble cast includes Dougray Scott, Shirley Henderson, Valene Kane, Arnas Fedaravičius, Anna Próchniak, and Daniel Rigby.

Anika remains true to herself and, just like during her first in-depth interview with Drive Music Media, continues to choose roles that contrast strongly with who she is in real life.

Violeta Zaliskeviciute-Piotrowska – her character in Summerwater – shares only two things with Anika: her mixed Polish-Scottish background and a certain observant nature. In everything else, they are complete opposites. Anika is an extrovert in real life, while Violetta is deeply introverted. These are exactly the kinds of roles Anika is drawn to – layered, complex, and far from her own personality.

The series carries a tense atmosphere that grows heavier with each episode. Every character harbors their own fears and secrets, which inevitably shapes the environment around them.

In her second interview with Drive Music Media, Anika opened up about the fire scene, the process of seeing herself through the lens of her characters, the influence of the Scottish setting on the production, and what her first-ever television appearance meant to her.

I have great pleasure in sharing my soundtrack to the @channel4 series ‘Summerwater’. Out TODAY on @invadarecords - link in bio

Composed, performed, produced and mixed by Gazelle Twin
Cello by Alexander Painter
Mastered by James Trevascus

Special thanks to Redg, Geoff, Charlie and Craig at @invadarecords. Also much gratitude to Robbie McKillop, John Donnelly, Mike Ellen, Jules Hussey and Isaac Allaway for supporting my work and helping this score’s potential to be fully realised.

And huge love to the cast members who have shared this music so far and continue to be wonderfully supportive.

Summerwater was seeded into life, using the residual energy of my 2023 album, ‘Black Dog’. Some of those songs feature in the series and much of the murky, contorted sounds, together with the big emotional sweeps, piano flourishes, and haunted strings are all present.

Huge thanks to my collaborator from afar, the extremely talented, Alexander Painter, whose cello offerings allowed me to build orchestral-scale pieces that feel warm, weird and real.

You can catch Episode 4 of Summerwater at 9pm tonight on @channel4 . I'm really grateful to be a part of this weird and wonderful show, and to have worked with such an incredible team of people. I hope you'll fall in love with The Hendersons as much as I did.
