🥹 WHEN YOUR ONLINE RUNNING FRIENDS BECOME REAL-LIFE FRIENDS! 🙌

Picture this: You’re running through CANADA 🇨🇦 at mile 4 of the @freepmarathon when suddenly you recognize a familiar face!

WAIT… IS THAT COREY?! 🤩

I’ve been following Corey @corcor_the_herbivore on Instagram and TikTok for quite some time, and getting to finally meet in person, in the middle of a MARATHON, was such a fun surprise!

Nearly 10 years ago, I discovered the online running community, and I had NO IDEA just how many incredible friendships and connections would come from it. 🥹

One of my absolute FAVORITE things about running is the PEOPLE. ❤️

From connecting through a screen to sharing miles together in real life, this community continues to remind me why I love this sport so much!

And the best part? It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you run. ALL RUNNERS COUNT! 🫶

💬 YOUR TURN: Have you ever met someone in person that you originally connected with through the online running community? Tell me your story below! 👇

October Race Report (Part 2+): Detroit International Half Marathon Weekend! 🏃‍♀️🍁

I was born and raised in Michigan, and it took MOVING AWAY for me to discover one of my favorite races. Make it make sense! 🤦‍♀️😂

Now, for the third year in a row, the Detroit International Half Marathon weekend has become a tradition, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one!

This year’s trip included the 1-miler, the 5K, the International Half Marathon, AND volunteering at the Expo because apparently, I don’t know how to just show up and run one race 🤷‍♀️🤣

The weather was absolutely perfect, and I even managed to snag my fastest times of the year in both the 5K and the half marathon! 🎉 Maybe the mile warmup helped with the 5K, or maybe the cool temps were just doing their thing. Either way, I’LL TAKE IT!

But wait… there’s more! Because this was also a marathon training weekend, I squeezed in my 21-mile long run. Nothing says vacation like running 21 miles and then spending two days on a cross-country road trip back to Texas. You know, totally normal vacation activities 🫠🚗🏃‍♀️

In between all the running madness, I got to spend time with family and friends, enjoy a family get-together, read, relax, and watch some movies. Basically, a little bit of everything — running, family time, and actual downtime! What a concept! 😂❤️

Now I’m home, back to marathon training, and already looking forward to next year because IT’S THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY! 🎉🎂

Three years of making this race weekend a tradition, and I have a feeling next year is going to be extra special!

Detroit, see you in 2027! 💙🏃‍♀️🍁

As part of Gibby’s Team23, Beckie ran the Detroit Free Press Marathon in support of the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s, exceeding her fundraising goal and raising over $2,000 to help people living with Parkinson’s stay active and connected! 🎉

Team23 gives individuals a way to turn their personal goals into support for the Foundation’s mission, and Beckie did just that. Thank you, Beckie, and everyone who supported her fundraiser. We’re proud to have you on Gibby’s team! 💙 Learn how to get involved with Team23 at https://kirkgibsonfoundation.org/team23/

Detroit International Half Marathon! Only goal was to enjoy it and take photos of whatever I wanted. First time in Canada and Detroit. The tunnel was my favorite and I added several minutes getting photos. The bridge was beautiful but like a long slow hill going up. Petition to add a 10k with the bridge and tunnel. Finished in 3:26:10 - loved having both girls with me and starting the race with Maggie.

Ran into Canada, did the only under water mile, had fun and took all the photos = success

Couldn’t have asked for a better running partner @bitty2002 or race conditions at the @freepmarathon ✨🏃🏻‍♀️

I’m historically not a runner but I’m glad my entire family plus awesome friends encouraged me to sign up with them. Shoutout to those who flew/drove up to cheer or run @antheczech @caitybowen @alexa_sandler @sandlermom @sandler2862

P.s. glitter does in fact make you faster ✨💁🏻‍♀️
P.s.s @caitybowen is a running icon!! Not only did she PR but she ran faster than her Boston qualifying time. Make sure to keep an eye out for this queen at the Boston marathon

This is me in my happy place.
My 7th time! 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
13.1 miles
Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon

But this time around I learned something, I have always discounted my efforts because I walk the Half Marathon, I dont run.
This year I realized that my efforts were just as valid as anyone else's regardless if I walked or ran.
I am longer see myself as the dented can on the bottom shelf, Top shelf all the way baby !

Thanks to @piccolospastahouse for the carb fueling.

The cheer squad from @dubcityrunners and @shoresoferie gave me an extra boost when I was running low.

Countless texts from close friends and cheers from complete strangers made sure I was never alone on my journey.

I can do hard things!!

Join me next year?

See you at the Start Line. 🏅

The Detroit Free Press Marathon was definitely something 💥

It’s not lost on me that I am the first ever in my family to choose to run and to be able to choose to run into the US by choice.. not running from persecution, dictatorship, oppression.

So, while yes, this may have been a time based PR race, it was way more than that. A true run with purpose.
