Kinda crazy we’re coming up on 15 years since we shot the Fraser River footage for Where the Trail Ends.

25 years ago, in 2001, Nicolas Vouilloz took me for a very intense drive to the top of a mountain bike trail in the south of France in his van with his bike in the back. Freeride Entertainment’s Alex Fostvedt was following us up that windy, somewhat terrifying road in our little, white rental van and quickly disappeared from our rearview mirror. We sorta knew already that Nico was starting another career as a rally car driver… I just didn’t understand at the time when I climbed into the passenger seat, camera in hand, that it was happening today, too. Axl was shooting footage for the movie New World Disorder 2 – Fat Tire Fury. And I was his wingman, gathering still photos of whatever came along. It was a one-and-done type of shoot. We would walk down the trail and set up, Nico would come flying past, and then we would continue on down. We were both shooting film, of course, and I do remember thinking afterwards we now had footage of the fastest downhill mountain bike rider in all of France, and all of the world, really. Nico won the elite world title again that year in Vail, his 6th, and once more after that in Kaprun in 2002, his 7th. The most elite world championship titles of any male downhill mountain bike rider. What I also remember is the amazing lunch we had that day, sitting across the table from Nico, who seemed so calm and cool. When riding, driving, or ordering his Salade niçoise in his riding gear. — - - - - - - - - - - - - - 🚲 @nicovouilloz_nv10 🎥 @axlfilms @alexfostvedt 🎬 @freeride_ent @freeridertv

Here’s a look back at @fabienbarel and his incredible career, which includes winning multiple World Cups, 2x World Champ elite, and 1x World Champ as a junior. He even joined @freeride_ent shooting a segment for NWD in Argentina, where he hit a sizeable road gap along with @robbiebourdon, @andreulacondeguy, and @paulbasmtb. Fab recently wrecked himself in a big crash testing bikes, and I’m wishing him all the best for a full recovery so he can get back to doing what he does so well.

Here’s a look at the Codex Wall Book that was printed earlier this year titled ‘Greatest Hits’ and some of the pages and photos they published. These books are meant to be displayed on a wall and have their own frame that also works as a stand that works great too. Huge thanks to @kurtsorge and @alexvolokhov_ who sent the jumps in the Yard and did interviews for our edit, and the talented @aidancroskrey who filmed and edited all the action, along with @akailahyocom who pitched in too. Massive respect and thanks to all the riders I’ve shot with over the years (and Brett Tippie’s mom, Bridget), whose pictures were selected for the book, and all the riders whose pictures you don’t see here. —————— 📖 🚲 @codex_wallbooks

The 2008 World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy delivered high drama and a mix of ecstasy and agony. Gee Atherton and Rachel Atherton, the talented British brother-sister duo, both won the elite World Championship titles - the first (and only) time siblings have become World Champions in the same year.

Their double victory was a historic family achievement, and the Athertons’ celebration was massive. However, this event is also remembered for Sam Hill’s heartbreaking crash in the men’s final. The Australian Hill was on a blistering run, several seconds up on Gee’s time, when he slid out in a dusty off-camber corner just a few turns from the finish. The crash cost Hill the win (he remounted to get bronze), effectively handing the gold to Gee.

Hill’s run could have been one of the greatest ever if he had pulled it off. Thus, Val di Sole 2008 had it all: a unique Atherton family triumph coupled with one of the most gut-wrenching “what if” moments in downhill lore.

Compared on sportsense - @gee_atherton vs @samhill13 from 2008.

Qual cena ou segmento te lembra mais do NWD? 👇

O New World Disorder marcou época, e esse segmento do @andreulacondeguy é o exemplo perfeito de porquê.
