VIC 🇦🇺 finally tried the famous Fremchie known for their $14 priced menu! And it did not disappoint. You get what you pay for in terms of quantity but the quality remains top tier. Definitely coming back to try the rest of their dishes 🤤

tabs abroad: frenchie, melbourne

visited @frenchie.melb 4 months ago and i was actually mind blown. we were curious because we saw that every single dish was $14 (even mains like steak / duck confit :0) so we wanted to try it out. was expecting it to be gimmicky but this was SO impressive and genuinely one of my favourite meals this year

i simply cannot review every single dish we tried bc we lit ordered 15+ dishes (swipe for pics), but i can say that every single one was a hit. they do really amazingly balanced dishes with a LOT of dimension, and they really play with balancing different flavour profiles with different textures and are sooo creative and intentional with everything!

we learnt from the staff that their menu rotates pretty regularly bc the owners love to r&d, and i think that's just so lovely bc you can really tell they're super passionate (& amazing) about the food they put out

although i cannot share more about every single dish, here are my top 5 that i still think about today:

1) grilled courgettes, whipped brie, pine nuts, caramelised onions slide 6)
this was SO delicious we ordered a second serving ^^ Never had courgettes like this before but we instantly started discussing how we could recreate this at home. spoiler i havent successfully done so. this was a perfect appetizer, the courgettes were so soft and seasoned perfectly, the whipped cheese was so light but creamy, and the sauce was just stunning we wiped the plate clean. a perfect dish honestly.

2) rocket, honey roasted butternut, goat cheese, walnuts (slide 10)
we also... ordered a second round of this... this one was so refreshing! the butternut was roasted perfectly and was sooo soft it basically melted in the mouth and the glaze was perfect. the goat cheese paired so nicely with the sweetness of the butternut and again the textures were so well balanced.

3) grilled duck breast, orange sauce (slide 13)
ANOTHER dish we re-ordered... im rly rly rly not a fan of orange. i dont like it by itself, i dont like it with coffee & i definitely dont like it with my meat. but!!!!! this orange sauce was SO good i actually couldnt stop eating it...
