But, Anyway came out of nowhere and landed in the CD and tape players of a lot of my teen friends. I was in William Canterbury’s 1989 Pathfinder, who got a lot of new, cool stuff from his older brothers. Reason I suspect it, is because one a them (likely @freshfrank406 ) heard it through their adjacency to Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, and the Black Crowes. Popper and BT band manager Dave Frey would start a fest called “HORDE” with them and “little brother” band The Spin Doctors. The new decade ushered in a new college sound with a bevy of great acts that powered us through the end of our teen years. Blues Traveller sat front and center before going large with “Run Around”. Interestingly, your SOTD, “But, Anyway” was never much of a radio hit. Popper and Chan Kinshla put it first on their debut album with a shrug. However, 6 years after its release, the Farrelly brothers got Popper to dress up in an Amish outfit while the credits rolled in Kingpin. The song? Thisun. It went thru the roof, six years later. A delayed fuse, if you will. This is Blues Traveler’s very first song, not Runaround, as many new fans would think. Nonetheless, Blues Traveler was an early part of this Gen X’ers ear with a unique sound and style to survive the ages. Turn this up and rip the knob off.#fedneck #genx #1990s #harmonica #college
