Summer’s the perfect time to finally share TWO amazing Chinese New Year hotpot dinners I never got around to posting! 🥢🍲

Both happened while I was knee-deep producing Smorgasburg’s huge Chinese Lunar New Year celebration… so better late than never!

Funny thing is, even though I grew up in Hong Kong, I never knew hotpot was such a popular Chinese New Year tradition. In our house, my mom’s idea of celebrating was a table overflowing with every delicious dish imaginable!

First Hotpot was with @christinasun and @gilmanme who I met at Smorgasburg’s Lunar New Year on Lincoln Road.

I loved that her friends all pitched in and brought something for the hotpot. That’s my kind of gathering… great food, great conversation and everyone sharing the love. ❤️🧧

And these two… they don’t do anything halfway! I love how they dress for every occasion. It’s been so much fun following their adventures—from horse riding and glamping in the Gobi Desert to tracking down the best Peking Duck in Shanghai.

Sometimes I get in an ungrateful headspace.
I start to think, “I don’t have enough. I’m not where I want to be.”

But the $12 a dozen oyster deal at whole foods @wholefoods and a glass Silex Sancerre gifted to me by @gowineusa reminds me that life is beautiful after all and I am stressing’ over nothin’ and that life is simple.

Sure. Working in hospitality sucks sometimes.

Working late and hours. Dealing with people. Crying in the bathroom and then getting back on the floor. The usual.

But at the end of the day, I am so lucky to come home and shuck myself some oysters on a Saturday night. Who cares that it’s in the AMs? I’m 24 for God’s sake. Who cares?

So why can’t I let Blue Point Oysters solve all my problems?

I actually totally can.

Named it “Let Her Be Blue” because the wine’s label is blue and because I’m having blue point oysters.
And because I’m sick of being blue. If someone else wants to be sad, they can have it. They can be blue. I don’t want to anymore. So let her be blue, not me.
