Thank you to everyone who attended The Light in Between. Sharing this work with our Dayton community was a true privilege, and we are thankful you were part of it.

If you attended a performance, we’d be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete our audience survey using the link in our bio. Your thoughts and reflections help us continue creating meaningful artistic experiences for our community.

Thank you Debbie Blunden-Diggs for hiring me and giving me this opportunity, thank you Qarrianne Blayr for believing in me everyday and holding me up with care, thank you to all the heads and elders of this organization for providing endless inspiration and love. Most importantly thank you Jeraldyne Blunden for being the founder and visionary of this beautiful space and legacy of 57 years. I am forever grateful to have been a guest in this revolutionary space and work dedicated to sharing the African American experience through movement and storytelling. A place where Black dancers and choreographers flourish and transcend boundaries! A dance company is NOTHING without its dancers and it has been an honor to dance in solidarity with everyone and experience all of your lights💛🌟✨

The future has to be rehearsed.

Last week, I gathered with Orlando and Ricarrdo Hunter-Valentine of Brother(hood) Dance, Khorii Tinson, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company artists Alex Peach Flewellen and Aaron Frisby, and Columbus artists Shaela Davis, Brianna Rhodes, and Chad Hunter for six days of listening, questioning, moving, and imagining together.

We weren’t trying to recreate history.

We were asking a question that refuses to leave me:

What kind of bodies will the next 250 years require?

Not bodies disciplined by race.
Not bodies organized by fear.
Not bodies rehearsing inherited hierarchies.

But bodies capable of remembering one another into freedom.

We left the studio with more questions than answers.

That feels exactly right.

Something is taking shape—not just a dance, but a proposition.

I’m grateful to every artist who brought their full humanity, rigor, generosity, and imagination into the room.

More soon. Video credit: @khoriiii
