Gotta brag on this kid. Up until 2 years ago, Oliver did not play basketball. He didn’t even play any sports for the last 4 years. Then he decided he wanted to play basketball. Not only that, he wanted to play at one of the best High School programs in Frisco HS. The odds were against him! But this kid put in so much work! He dedicated to getting 1% better every day over the summer! He’s put himself in position for the freshman team and still a work in progress, but man this kid has a no quit attitude & puts himself out there every day! Keep working Oliver. Excited for some basketball this fall/winter!

Osgood Schlatter is a common pain young athletes have in their knees. It is often due to the patellar tendon getting over stressed/over used/loaded. Young athletes are often affected because they are growing and playing a lot of change in direction and jumping sports. As they grow, the muscles are often behind in strength to tolerate how much stress the now longer body is becoming.

MAT can help with this problem. I had a young athlete come in with knee pain from basketball tryouts and practice intensifying. He had a lot of muscles that were not firing well. Before the session we did 1-leg squats and there was immediate knee pain. After the session he was able to do them without pain. All because the body was better communication and using the muscles he has!#

Want to train like an athlete?
Most families and athletes train, purely power and plyometrics. The problem is most athletes, never built a very strong foundation of how to move and control their bodies with basic movements first. Because they were athletes, they often just trained in advance levels their whole lives.

This has led so many young athletes to not be able to compete later on due to overuse injuries and chronic pain. A lot of this could have been avoided if they first started with mastering basic movements and gain control and knew how to move their body better but, because they are athletes, it was just assumed that these were already in good standing.

don’t rush the athletic process just because someone shows promise early. Find someone to teach them the basics and master those before the plow metrics and power. Even when they start training and earned the right to do plyometrics and power, they should still consistently revisit the basics of movement and control.
