You can sit with us.

One of the things I love so much about coming back to fashion here (in Costa Rica) and now (at 40) is the level of kindness amongst the models.

I’ve seen models be competitive, cold, putting on a hard front to try and be “cool” and “fierce.” I’ve heard horror stories (like the one about two models up for the same high-paying hair job in Milan, and they were staying in the same model apartment. One model replaced the other’s shampoo with Nair/hair remover! She became bald! The agency sent both models home, neither one got the job).

I’ve also met many kind models over the years. It wasn’t all drama and backstabbing. But I felt like there was a lot of posturing, judgement, and pettiness in some of the environments I moved through.

My experience in Costa Rica has been a breath of fresh air. There is so much talent here (I will say this 1,000x) and everyone seems really cool! Open, generous, helpful. Looking out for each other, and uplifting each other along the way.

This is a table I’m happy to have a seat at.
