Kala Mentari Berlalu
Written & Directed by Bumi Apnala

Behind the Scene | Character Introduction

Tude, a young boy who arrives in a rural village with his father, slowly discovers a world far different from his own. There, he befriends Nina, a cheerful girl who spends her days playing in the rice fields, and their simple friendship grows warmly amid the quiet landscape. As his father’s plans begin to disrupt the balance of the fields, Tude senses something unsettling, an unseen presence and changes in the people around him.

Last year, we also had the chance to photograph one of the activities at ACS Bali (Anglo-Chinese School Bali), a respected international school in Kura Kura Bali, Serangan, combining a strong holistic approach with Cambridge (Years 1–10) and the IB Diploma (Years 11–12), shaped by Asian values that nurture character, leadership, and service across a diverse student community.

This is part of Amenangi Waworuntu’s moment — a selection of frames from his concert debut we documented last August in Bali.

A night that travelled from Bach to Beethoven, interpreted with classical rigour and a subtle jazz sensibility.

These photographs were beautifully captured by @frombaliwis, in collaboration with @niskala.studio. At Sheraton Ballroom, Kuta – Bali (with the Amabile Chamber Orchestra)

For the Patiala Indigenous Community in West Sumba, the Marapu ritual night is a sacred space where songs, steps, and prayers unite. As the body dances and the drums echo, it’s not only the living who are present—but also the spirits of the ancestors, quietly returning. A reminder that cultural heritage is not just remembered, but continuously lived.

In January 2023, we travelled to West Sumba to document an important moment: the signing of an agreement to protect customary land—covering land, coastal, and marine areas. This collective act took place in Balirama Customary Village, led by the Rato (traditional elders) and indigenous communities, reinforcing ancestral law passed down through generations.

For them, land is not just a resource—it is a spiritual bond with nature and their ancestors. Protecting it is an intergenerational duty, ensuring that what is passed on today still lives for those who come after.
