FERAL FEAST at Concéntrico

The final stop of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK twenty-year anniversary tour takes place at Concéntrico in Logroño. For Feral Feast urban forager Gaja Pegan Nahtigal and transdisciplinary designer Liza Sočan transformed an existing installation into a communal dining experience. Drawing on locally foraged ingredients, Slovenian culinary traditions, ceramics, and design objects, they create a shared table where food becomes a medium for exchange, hospitality, and collective experience.

Foraged plants and ingredients gathered in and around Logroño are brought together and served alongside specially selected tableware by Viennese designers, turning the table into a playful landscape of objects, flavours, gestures, and stories.

Oblikovanje: @ajda.justin

Kuratorki: Olja Simčič Jerele in Lucija Klauž

Vstop prost.

Ob otvoritvi cikla Terenskih vaj, bo svojo umetniško prakso oblikovanja hrane predstavila tudi Liza Sočan. Za otvoritven večer pripravlja njene najbolj prepoznavne užitne kamne.

Vstop prost.

Delavnico bosta vodili Olja Simčič Jerele in Lucija Klauž, ustanoviteljici Tudi bralnega krožka in kuratorki razstave. Obiskovalci_ke naj s seboj prinesejo (vsaj) eno knjigo, brez katere ne bi mogli_e preživeti v

In late June, on one of the hottest days in Vienna (as of yet), Karla and Aljoša attended the event “Snacks and the City” at WAF Galerie (@waf_galerie ), organized by the Ecoslay team (@ecoslay_mag ). We rushed to apply to an Urban Foraging workshop, led by Gaja Pegan Nahtigal (@fromgaja ), who we wanted to meet for some time now! Plants sprouting from the concrete, trees designated to small holes in the sidewalk and leaves you can snack on, dry out, ferment, and so much more, all in good company. Girl Dinner followed, DJ set, Kombucha bar as well.
🌟🌟🌟
We had a lot of fun, no matter the heat, meeting people, and slowing down to recognize plants we see in our everyday walks around the city. Had some good snacks too!

Recap: Foraging workshop — Day 1 Snacks and the City. A huge thank you to everyone who braved the heat wave to join us on June 27 for the official launch of Snacks and the City. 🥵🔥

Special love to Gaja Pagan Nahtigal (@fromgaja) for expertly guiding us through the concrete jungle and shifting our perspective on what’s edible in the urban landscape. And of course shoutout to all the cute foragers who brought the absolute best energy on what was officially the hottest day of the year so far! 💅🌸

Thank you to @waf_galerie for hosting us and opening your doors to our community. 🏠💖

Foraging is still a common and very much alive aspect of Slovenian culture - almost 60% of the whole country is covered by forests. These forests have been filling people with both joy and fear for generations. Besides unpredictable wilderness they provide medicine, food, biomaterials, economic “growth “, magical tales and folklore.
Now these plants are part of urban flora either by coincidence or purposely planned into highly curated parks.

This Thursday 23rd we are meeting at Krater to discover 7 magical edible plants, tightly connected to Slovenian folklore and heritage as well as representative of urban nature and self-sprouted ecosystems like Krater. You can find these types of ecosystems all over Europe and beyond, appearing, disappearing and reappearing as a part of ever changing urban landscape.

💌 Admision is FREE with limited spots - you can apply by sending us a private message or email to info@trajna.com
And like the title said, prepare your taste buds for some edible tales 😏🤭😋

🌱 The workshop is a part of KRATER KULTURE project, exploring alternative and regenerative activities for mixed groups of locals and tourists/foreigners. Workshop will be led in both Slovenian and English, depends on the applicants.

We are keeping the momentum going on Sunday, June 28, from 17-19h at WAF Galerie with a Panel Talk on URBAN FOOD POLITICS.

We are breaking down the politics of what, how, and why we eat in the city. This discussion dives into the raw reality of urban food systems: we’ll pull a red thread between foraging wild plants in concrete cracks, the politics of dumpster diving and food solidarity networks, and food preservation... and more 🛒🗑🌱

We are thrilled to bring together two voices for this conversation:

🏹Robin Foods (@robin.foods.vienna ): A grassroots movement right here from Vienna. They are famous for organizing communal dumpster-diving actions, transforming food waste into beautiful community buffets, and running preservation workshops.

🌿Gaja Pegan Nahtigal (@fromgaja): Returning to the space as an urban forager to give us an extended perspective on foraging, urban food culture and how to combine those. Gaja will show us exactly what is edible right under our noses in a metropolis like Vienna, reframing the city landscape as a diverse and living ecosystem.

The talk will be moderated by Ecoslay founder Camille Belmin @myrtillus_vaccinia .

After that we can enjoy a Trash Food buffet brought to you by Robin Foods, rights from the Dumpster 🚮😋

📍 Where: WAF Galerie, Schadekgasse 8, 1060 Wien.
🗓 When: Sunday, June 28, 17:00 – 19:00h
🎟 Entry: Free

Drop-in for the talk!

GIRL DINNER, KOMBUCHA BAR & OPENING PARTY OF SNACKS AND THE CITY

Ready for the sequel to the foraging walk? Right after, we are moving to WAF Galerie for Part II of Saturday’s program: an itty gritty get-together 🗣🥂👄

👯‍♀️17.00 – 18.00h: The Girl Dinner. This isn’t a sit-down meal, but a beautifully designed food installation by @fromgaja. She has prepared a selection of bites featuring the very plants we learned about during the previous workshop (foraged ahead of time, outside the city center). It’s all about tasting the landscape together and having a post-walk debrief. 💁‍♀️🍵🌿

🥃18.00h: Opening of the Kombucha Bar. Our original Ecoslay member and sweet darling Nari is taking over the bar! She is diligently preparing fresh batches of herbal and berry-infused Kombucha to serve you chilled drinks, alongside a few other liquid surprises. 🍓🥂

🎼19.00 – 20.30h: Music and hang out with DJ zey. We are thrilled to host @liminalz_ to extend the evening and turn the gallery into a cute little function.
zey’s artistic expression taps into the deep musical threads connecting the diverse contemporary cultural landscapes of the Black community. Blending genres like Footwork, Jersey Club, Gqom, Jungle, Baile Funk, Bouyon, Batida, and Kuduro, zey creates powerful sonic bridges across spaces. As part of the Vienna-based collective @spice_mixers, zey actively advocates for safer dancefloors for QTBIPOC communities. With mixes broadcasted internationally from Paris (LYL Radio) to Accra (Oroko Radio), and fresh off the stage from Vienna’s iconic Hyperreality festival, zey is about to bring unmatched energy to WAF. 🔥🔊

📍 Where: WAF Galerie, Schadekgasse 8, 1060 Vienna.
🗓 When: Saturday, June 27, 17-21h.
🎟 Entry: Free / Donations welcome. Drop-in for the dinner & party!

🍽️ Yesterday, the Circo installation hosted an immersive and experimental culinary experience created by Gaja Pegan Nahtigal and Liza Sočan, in collaboration with Vienna Design Week.

Before taking their seats, participants waited while watching the food being prepared as part of the performance itself. Plants, stones, and landscapes that seemed inedible gradually revealed themselves as a shared gastronomic experience.

A collective dinner that brought together design, food, ecology, and material culture, transforming the act of eating into a new way of gathering and experiencing the city.
