I wrote a poem in the rain today,
In the midst of silence the night ushers,
And the distant crickets playing to the sound of love—
A beautiful melody, well curated,
Yet humanly annoying.
The noise was silenced by the rhythm of droplets,
Beating me to stupor—
Yet I persist.

In that moment I felt alone,
Bested by nature's release
As I kept myself scribbling.
Then came the train of thoughts,
Marinating in clarity,
Like a well-cooked piece of steak,
Sumptuous with every delivery.
Every line,
Baptized by the tears that the clouds cry,
As my medium slowly degrades.

I wrote a poem in the rain today,
And I couldn't rely on what I saw.
So I begged my creator,
And he inscribed it in my heart—
The words that faded away slowly,
According to nature's creed:
What is born must surely die.
So when I go, this piece remains with me,
Passed down to the ones I give my heart:
An open spectacle,
A lover's gain,
So that my earthly memories may remain.

If I get a flower for every time death comes knocking
I'll be left in a pool of fresh roses
Sinking into its thorns
With a smile on my face
Like laughter has bedevilled me

I'd bask in the darkness the clouded night brings
Sitting patiently between two outcomes
Chewing cud repetitively
I already know what pain tastes like
How the heart fails to comprehend what the mind can't understand

If I get a flower for every time death comes knocking
Excitement will cease to breed memories
And disgust will be the only memory bred
A language I don't understand
Why then celebrate when it is all grief in the end
Why wake up every morning and think there's time to spend

If I do get flowers again
I'll drop them by my bed
I'll form a nursery
For all my words unsaid
When he comes knocking again
We'll have a tête à tête

"Until it is my time
When I'm ripe and old of age
Do not bring me flowers again"
