My first year in fire island (ten years ago) I was the only trans person in the pines some of the weeks I visited, and I almost ALWATS got kicked out of parties for being a trans girl lol. I saw whispers and gasps when I’d get into the lines of houseparties then when I finally got to the door find out I was being rejected because it wasn’t just a house party….it was a “sexy” house party.

I had friends who’d stay at the Belvedere hotel and then not be able to stay there because I had breasts and they have a no breasts policy.

As the summers went by I kept making these spaces MY spaces. I just loved the island and its history even tho there were a few bad apples. Probably because I could see clearly that amidst all the men, Fire Island was clearly very feminine spirited.

Year by year I noticed my Star begin to rise and as it did they all started being kinder to me. They all started to make exceptions for me. The thing about me is I don’t just take exceptions as the best it’ll ever be, I see it as the beginning. I brought dolls on my trips and let them sleep on my couch, I started rolling up to sexy parties with 2, 3 , or 4 dolls….and we would tear it tf UP. lol and get TORN up tbh 😂😂😂😂

I made youtube vlogs of me taking the island over and over and I wrote Surviving Fire Island Handbooks on Paper Magazine, released mini movies of the dolls in fire island for the internet to take to virality. More and more of the gay world saw Dolls confident and happy owning the island.

And because of all of those years I put in work and dealt with hella humiliation and exclusion….and because I didn’t close the door I opened behind me once I walked in, is how I chaperoneed hundreds of trans women to the island. THAT is why the Second Paul’s Dolls Fire Island cemented to me that I will do whatever I can to make Paul’s Dolls Fire Island happen every Fourth of July after.

It’s like we are doll multipliers lol…. Week after week there’s more and more of us and our love visibility opportunity and ultimately livelihood is only going up for now, no matter how hard they try to keep the doll down….she gunna get back up and she gunna pump it !!!!!!

Before the lasers, the thongs, and the sunrise sets — there was purpose.

What began as a grassroots rebellion has grown into one of queer culture’s most iconic beach dance parties: Pines Party. A legacy of protest, preservation, and pure celebration on the Fire Island shoreline.

From ACT UP-era resilience to today’s glittering decadence, we’re diving into the history of this storied event — where every beat, every costume, and every sunrise dance is part of something bigger.

Pines Party 2025 is taking place August 1st to August 3rd in Fire Island Pines. Tickets still available at pinesparty.com.
