Frost Chopin Academy & Festival | Kevin Kenner, artistic director

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Throughout this past week, not only have I received valuable feedback and insights from some of the greatest interpreters of Chopin, but also have I had an amazing opportunity to learn from others, through performances and sophisticated discussions. This week went by so quickly, yet it couldn’t have been more memorable.

The Frost Chopin Academy and Festival not only allowed me to refine my Chopin repertoire, but also gave me a deeper understanding of what lies beyond the score, raising many complex questions and ideas. This festival not only amplified my appreciation for Chopin’s music, but also gave me a better understanding of other genres of music—like jazz.

Thank you @frostchopin for this wonderful opportunity; my gratitude goes far beyond words.

A few weeks ago, I had the greatest pleasure of premiering the piano transcription of Szymanowski’s ballet Harnasie at the Frost Chopin Festival.

Harnasie tells a story of a highland maiden who is torn between her betrothal and her unexpected love for Harnaś, the leader of a band of outlaws. During her wedding, the bandits “abduct” the bride, leading to an elopement that promises a life of happiness in the mountains. The ballet, notably choreographed by Serge Lifar, enjoyed a great success in 1936 at the Paris Opera. The US premiere of its orchestral version was given in 1937 by none other than the Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by music director Artur Rodziński.

This piano transcription was one of the most demanding projects I had ever worked on and I’m so happy to finally present it to the public. Here is a clip of the movement “Raid of Harnasie.” #karolszymanowski #szymanowski #harnasie #ballet #gorale #pianotranscription #classicalpiano #frostchopinfestival #frostschoolofmusic #chopinfoundation #chopinmiami #worldpremiere
