POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Three weeks since we closed REALM OF THE RIVER ✨, and I’m finally finding a moment to share a few memories. Life got busy, but these moments stayed with me. 🤍

A little backstage chaos, glimpses of our world onstage, familiar faces in the audience, and a little celebration at the end.

To my family and friends: thank you for showing up for this part of my life. Theater asks me to share some of the most vulnerable parts of myself, and having you there means more than I can put into words. You witnessed—and took home—a piece of my story and my heart.

To the friends who came but aren’t pictured here: I’m sorry we forgot to take photos together! Thank you, with all my heart, for giving me a little of your time. Your presence meant so much to me.

Thank you for your beautiful words about my work, my castmates, and everything our team created. I’ve carried them with me.

And to everyone who helped bring this story to the stage: thank you for giving us something so worth remembering.

A few seconds of memories from nearly two months of giving this story our hearts.

Out in DTLA Mark Taper Auditorium

Rasquachismo in Art and Life:
Cheech in conversation with
Josh T Franco, collector at large at the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art.

Artists:
Jean-Pierre Rueda - Poet
Omar Pichardo - Arts &

Diana Cabral - Folklorico Dance/ Theater Director, Artist
Lupe Montiel ~ Artist, Poet, Actor, Playwright, Filmmaker
Narsiso Martinez - Artist

In Chicano communities across the United States, the term rasquache has been reclaimed from a slur to a badge of pride, expressing a sensibility - rasquachismo-characterized by inventiveness and creativity, often in response to material limitations.
As an art collector, Cheech Marin has celebrated this attitude as integral to his Chicano identity, and it figures prominently in the new Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture in Riverside.
