Spent the day touring the Low End area of Albina on foot and by boat. The @1803fund team asked guests to think 250 years into #Portlands future. Thinking that far ahead means moving past just identifying projects but instead thinking about how can we invest in the infrastructure that will support generations to come.

“Da” photos from the annual co-ed #DaGathering. Thank you #Portland for letting @kf_curates and I borrow your auntie, co-worker, neighbor, big sister, teacher, play cousin, professor, husband etc for an evening of community, connections and supporting some local black owned businesses. Big props to @bykumous @llondynsmom and the rest of the squad at @1803fund for hosting us in their newly opened space in #TheLowEnd. Our vendors @fraiche_signatures @letemcookpdx & @mobile.marti.nini (those signature cocktails🔥) crushed it with @djashe_ashe bringing the vibes. @storyboothexperience helped us by recording our aspirations for the future of Albina. As usual @sirdustydust did his thing behind the 📸. Hey @blackportlandofficial maybe we need to do this more than once a year😉

AI Without the Hype with Scott Hanselman Saturday, September 5 @ @nedspace.pdx AI is moving fast enough that it can make you reconsider your own career in a very real way. ▪️ Why did I try so hard? ▪️ Why did I get the degree? ▪️ What does all this work mean now? If you have had those thoughts, you are not alone. That is a big part of why we are bringing Scott in. Scott Hanselman is a Microsoft Vice President and Member of Technical Staff working on Open Source, Windows and the Azure Cloud Developer Experience. He has been a programmer for over thirty years and has also worked at Intel and Nike. He has spent a couple of decades explaining hard technical things to people without making them feel small about it. He said something on our Silicon Forest Tech Summit stage that stuck with the room: " AI isn't meant to replace builders. It's meant to multiply them" On September 5 he's back, for a talk and an open conversation. What these tools are actually good at right now, where they fall over, and how to build something real with them. No pitch, no hand waving. Bring questions like: Where does AI actually help in my work, and where is it a waste of time? What should I learn first if I'm starting now? Is this coming for my job, and what do I do about it? There are no bad questions in this room, and nobody is expected to arrive already knowing. This is what a true partnership looks like 🤝

When Fila approached us, they were preparing for something big. Not just a new campaign, but a full reinvention of how the brand shows up in North America, with a clear goal -> become truly consumer-centered again. So we started in the field. Across 7 cities, with 100+ conversations spanning athletes, creators, and people shaping the future of sport in their own unique ways. What followed was a nearly 2-year collaboration, building the rebrand from the inside out. We went deep. Shaping strategy, testing concept directions through real conversations, and reestablishing credibility in core sports from running to tennis. At the heart of it all was a new approach to their leadership. Bringing teams together across different functions and locations, aligning around a shared vision, and choosing to show up differently. Because a rebrand isn’t just a strategy, it’s shared ownership and a shared belief in building something better together.

This Saturday at Hollywood Theatre. Link in bio… Black Community Television was produced in Portland in the 1980s, as part of Rogers CableSystems local channel lineup. Before BCTV, there was limited broadcast television coverage showcasing Portland’s Black community. BCTV filled this void producing programs featuring Black intellectuals, artists, politicians, entertainers, and community leaders—raising visibility of Black life and culture in Portland.  Tonight’s event includes a screening of BCTV programming, with a conversation to follow between 1803 Fund’s Juma Sei and BCTV producer and host, Art Alexander.
