This is probably an unpopular opinion but,

Making hats like these makes making cowboy hats feel like childsplay.

There are so many more different methods, tools and skills needed to create a hat like this and it takes at least twice as long as making a simple cowboy hat.

The brim binding ribbon alone took me more than a full day to sew on due to how it has to be done on the classic d'orsay brim curl.

If you're not familiar with what a d' orsay brim curl is (most people will never have heard of it) it's a specific brim edge curl that was typical on Victorian and Edwardian era top hats, bowler and Jewish style homburg hats.

Unlike a pencil curl which is rounded in shape, the d'orsay has a sharp , flatter brim curl which gives it a distinctive, very smart look.

For this I used a combination of my regular curling iron and d 'orsay curling iron both made by @kacprzakhatblocks

Not many felt hatters (like myself) will offer these types of brim curl and it's usually only performed on silk top hats these days.

I also had to have a custom hat block made by @hatblockmaker for the taller, square crown shape which is another work of art in itself.

I was very excited to have been asked to make this hat and having made plenty of similar hats in the past I knew how much work would be involved in creating it.

Let me know what you think and what hats you'd like to see me create in the future.
