Phoenix recap: ate amazing food, drank delicious cocktails, experienced Noah Kahan perfection, learned that Haley has very strong feelings about mascots, and spent five days asking “but is it always this hot?”

10/10 trip. No notes. Except maybe turn the temperature down next time.

@michelinguide came, saw…and left us with questions.

I’ll admit, I have a few.

I could probably make a pretty good case for flipping some of the Michelin Recommended and Bib Gourmand designations, and seeing Arizona walk away from the inaugural Southwest Guide without a star was certainly not what many of us expected.

But the word I’ve used since Michelin first announced it was coming to the Southwest has been opportunity.

And I still believe that.

Nineteen Arizona restaurants are now in the MICHELIN Guide.

Seven Bib Gourmands. Twelve Recommended restaurants. And some pretty incredible individual recognition for Arizona talent along the way.

That’s history.

More importantly, it opens doors that simply weren’t open yesterday.

It gives travelers who use Michelin to plan where they eat another reason to look at Arizona. It gives these restaurants an international platform and creates opportunity for more restaurants to be discovered, more recognition in future Guides and, yes, future stars.

And that recognition reaches far beyond the name on the restaurant door.

It shines a light on our chefs and hospitality teams, our wine and cocktail programs, our farmers, bakers, growers, makers and all of the people who have helped build this culinary community.

Those of us who live here already knew Arizona could eat.

Now 19 Arizona restaurants are officially part of one of the most recognized culinary guides in the world.

There are absolutely questions to ask about this first list.

But there is also so much opportunity in what comes next.

And I think that part is pretty damn exciting.
