If I were a Client, the Client of a Private Chef, I would be VERY SPECIFIC about my expectations & then I would step back & let her do her stuff! Knowledge is power. Here is a guideline of what you might expect - *Expectations such as I would like dinners dropped off twice a week with minimal amount of time/effort for heating up/service ~OR~ I would like our meals prepared on-site, in our home & served personally by the Chef 4 nights a week. *I would like Grab & Go breakfast & lunch items for all 5 family members to take to school/work Monday through Friday. *We like an unhurried, craft cocktail each night before dinner ~OR~ please decant/set out a well-paired bottle of wine from our cellar each evening. *Will there be weekend dinner parties? *Travel required to secondary homes or vacations? *Will the housekeeper clean after meals or is it expected/agreed to by the Chef? *Are there allergies or dietary preferences for family members such as vegan or pescatarian? *If a client is an athlete with weight loss/gain goals, injury recovery goals, the Chef will work very closely with an athlete's trainers/physicials to achieve all goals within a very specific time frame. Consider this carefully when interviewing a Chef as a team member. *Is the Chef to provide meals for household staff/ personal assistants as well? Once expectations are set, there is typically a two week period to ensure everyone is compatible & happy before the actual contract is signed with adjustments in tact, as everyone becomes acquainted. Is the food too spicy or bland? Is there enough for seconds or too much food left over? Are children/pets comfortable? Once a contract is agreed upon, the Chef becomes one of the greatest assets to the home & cooking/shopping/clean-up is crossed off a busy family's to-do list and a very rewarding relationship is formed. *Non-disclosure Agreements are often crucial because a Chef is privileged to the private, inner-workings of a family's home. Often a well matched Chef & family maintain a relationship spanning generations!
