A recap of All About Music 2026 (@allaboutmusicin)

Artists, music tech companies, labels, distributors - the entire music ecosystem was present and Future School (@futureschoolin) students met them all. Networking is the obvious takeaway but the list is much longer (more on that in the upcoming issue of our newsletter “Red & Blue”)

A big shoutout to Saumya Bahuguna (@saumya._.bahuguna) for being one of the few selected to perform at the Music X stage.

Until next year, @allaboutmusicin

Summer Program 2026 Originals

Track 4 - Out of the Dark

The central theme of the song revolves around an introvert wearing his heart on his sleeve and being misunderstood in the eyes of others for just being himself. The song builds and shows his resolve in overcoming these deeprooted fears.

Your mix may be perfect and still feel completely off.

Perfect EQ. Clean compression. Balanced levels. And yet, a core part of the mix feels missing.

That's because mixing isn't just a technical exercise. Every decision you make, whether it's the warmth or brightness of the mix, how dynamic it sounds, or how much space the mix has, all of it adds to the story of the song.

At the Thematic Mixing Workshop with Siddharth Talwar (@tidals_music), he walked us through what separates a good mix from a great one. During the workshop, we listened to several tracks dissected why certain mixes feel chaotic, why some feel intimate, and why some others make you groove along the beat.

Drum Miking Techniques Masterclass by Nilesh Thomas (@nileshthomas_)

On the drums - Joash Thomas (@joashthomas007) | Year 1 Music Production student

A glimpse into what was covered in the masterclass:

• Overhead Placement Sets Everything
Your overheads aren't just cymbal mics, they are the foundation of your drum sound. Use the Recorderman or Glyn Johns technique to capture a phase-coherent stereo image before you even place a close mic. Everything else fills in what the overheads miss.

• Tune Before You Track
No amount of compression fixes a drum that is out of tune with itself. Muffle the resonant head, tap near each lug, and bring the tension rods to a consistent pitch.

• Perspective Changes Everything When Panning
Drummer's perspective = hi-hat pans left, floor tom right. Audience perspective = the opposite. Neither is wrong, but commit to one and pan your close mics to match your overheads.

Sessions like this remind us that great engineering is about intentional choices, not guesswork.

Do you want to experience what's it like to study a professional music degree firsthand? Come and find out at the Future School's Open Day. Registration link of the Open Day is in the bio.

Here's a particular gap in audio education that doesn't get talked about enough, the distance between understanding acoustic theory and being able to design a PA system that actually serves a space. Knowing what a line array is, and knowing how to model, predict, and deploy one for a specific venue or concert, are two very different things.

That gap is exactly what this session was built to address.

L-Acoustics (@l.acoustics.official) came to Future School this week for a 4-hour deep dive into the fundamentals of live sound system design, the kind of structured, industry-standard training they have delivered to thousands of audio professionals worldwide.

For those less familiar: L-Acoustics is the global benchmark in professional audio. They are the pioneers of the modern line array, and their systems are the infrastructure behind the world's most demanding stages, arenas, and touring productions. Their education division is equally rigorous, built on decades of training working engineers and, more recently, formalised into an academic partnership program designed to bring professional certification directly into undergraduate programmes.

The session followed the architecture of their System Fundamentals curriculum, opening with the principles of sound reproduction and the acoustic environment, before moving through the full signal chain: every element from the console to the audience, examined not just as components, but as a designed system with intention behind each stage. Students then worked with Soundvision, L-Acoustics' professional system design software, modelling venue acoustics and visualising system configurations before a single speaker cabinet goes in the air. The session closed with a grounded conversation on career pathways in live sound, the range of roles, the professional ladder, and where the industry is heading.

Live sound at a professional level is a discipline, and sessions like this are what that discipline looks like in a learning environment.

Thank you to the L-Acoustics team, Luca (@lucaikkaku) and Katerina for bringing this to our students.

More industry sessions ahead. Watch this space.

Saumya Bahuguna (@saumya._.bahuguna), a Year-2 student of B.Voc in Music Production & Technology, led the workshop "High Impact Songwriting & Idea Development", as a part of the workshop series in collaboration with Sound of Goa (@thesoundofgoa).

The room was full of people of different ages — most with little to no prior experience in songwriting experience. In 2 hours, everyone grasped the core aspects of songwriting and was able to present the hook and chorus of the song along with its own melody.

There's a lot to explore within songwriting and music creation, which require both more time and commitment. For this reason, we'll be launching the "Music Creation Bootcamp" next week Saturday on 2nd May — a Future School × Sound of Goa initiative. Write, record, produce, mix, and present your own original track in 3 weekends. 20 seats only. Registration link is in the bio!

The Artist Actualization Program developed by Horse Garden Productions (@tidals_music and @bullibainbridge), was delivered as part of our Professional Development initiative at Future School for our students.

At its core, it’s about helping artists understand themselves better, starting from knowing the type of creator they are, the inner drive that leads them to create, while also mapping the entire process of creation and the vision behind it.

In this short interview, students talk about their experience within the program and Artist Archetype. The Artist Archetype helps you to understand the most intrinsic values and motivations of an artist.

The different Artist Archetypes include:

1) Human-Centered Creator: You create, learn, and move through the world with an instinctive awareness of how your actions affect others.

2) Integrity-Driven Idealist: You are guided by a strong inner compass. This gives your choices depth and credibility.

3) Purpose-Led Visionary: You’re motivated by meaning, direction, and the sense that what you’re doing matters in the long run.

4) Grounded Collaborator: You thrive in shared effort, mutual respect, and collective progress.

5) Self-Focused Innovator: You trust your instincts, move independently, and are willing to explore more paths others might hesitate to take.

6) Integrated Creator: You move fluidly between empathy, integrity, purpose, collaboration, and self-drive, depending on what the moment calls for.

Which Artist Archetype do you resonate with the most? Let us know in the comments!

The Music Programming Capstone Presentation is the perfect way to close out Year 1 and encapsulates the learning and creative journey of our young, upcoming artists in the Music Production cohort. We saw a whole lot of genre exploration, experimentation with music tech and programming, original compositions, music for visual media within this year’s Capstone Presentation - it showcased that these students have not only come to discover their own creative abilities as an artist, but also have started to step outside their comfort zone to apply these skills practically and professionally.

Rahul Kannan (@ruhalmusic) - the co-founder of Heard Music, shared his insights as the external examiner and brought a much needed industry perspective to these music professionals of tomorrow.

To the students - Here’s to another year of growth and learning :)
