30g of fibre a day — what could that actually look like? 🌱

Fibre is important for so much more than keeping your bowels moving.

It supports healthy digestion and bowel function, can help you feel fuller for longer, and getting enough fibre is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer. The NHS recommends aiming for 30g of fibre a day as part of a healthy, balanced diet. (nhs.uk)

And the good news? You don’t need to eat the same boring foods every day or pile your plate with beans and pulses.

Look at the variety here 👇

🥑 Avocado
🫐 Blueberries
🌾 Oats
🥝 Kiwi
🥦 Broccoli
🍠 Sweet potato
🌶️ Red pepper

Different plant foods bring different combinations of fibre, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial plant compounds — so variety and colour matter too.

And yes, beans and pulses are brilliant sources of fibre… but if you’re not used to eating much of them, they can also turn you into a little fart sack. 💨😂

The answer isn’t to avoid fibre — build it up gradually, vary your sources and let your gut adapt.

30g doesn’t have to come from one meal. It’s about what you add up across the day.
