@hanszimmerlive was one extraordinary experience! It's hard to pick a favourite from the almost 3 hour program, but the second encore "Time" from Inception (played after Pirates of the Caribbean) was out of this world.
For me, as a pianist, hearing @hanszimmer play this piece and end the concert on a deeply reflective and sombre note was so special and spoke really deeply to me.

I'll share more highlights on my stories soon but this particular piece needed a place to stay.

Was also extra special to attend with my family and friend.

September Photo Dump - my birthday month, Book Week and the start of spring!

For Book Week (an annual book event for schools & libraries across Australia where school students/teachers/librarians dress up in book characters), I picked a character - Agatha - from Stuart Wilson’s book series “The 113th Assistant Librarian”. Highly recommend this series. Ideal for upper-primary and middle-school level readers. Think of a library full of magical books, some very dangerous indeed! Oliver & Agatha’s job is to make sure those books don’t get into the wrong hands or cause chaos in their world. I really enjoyed the simplicity and pure fun of adventure you read in these books.

Other special September highlights include…

Attending a concert in “The Valley” (yes, survived the craziness of that part of Brisbane! 😄) - The Gospel Project. Really enjoyed listening and singing some of the good old Gospel Songs. I love that @jameyfoxton and @lucysugerman and their guest artists are seeking to make Gospel Music accessible and enjoyable to sing again!

I really enjoyed my birthday thanks to my sisters @marychalaby_ @fullnessofjoy16 and @brighterthansunflowers_gracie who set up a lovely dark academia, Harry Potter-inspired dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed it and felt very spoiled indeed! ❤️ Also enjoyed a lovely candlelight concert for Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at St John’s Cathedral.

In September I decided to try reading Virginia Woolf for the first time. I started “Mrs. Dalloway” but it was hard to get into…got a bit lost tbh. So, I started “Flush: a Biography” (one of her shorter stories) and I’m loving it! 🥰 Basically, Woolf is telling the story of Flush, a real golden-brown cocker spaniel given to the famous Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett (later Elizabeth Barrett Browning) in 1841 by her friend, writer Mary Russell Mitford. I’m loving the unique perspective from Flush that just keeps pulling at the heart strings 🥹❤️

Finally, don’t you love this lovely sprayed-edge edition of Winnie-the-Pooh! Saw it at Harry Hartog’s Bookshop and it had to come home with me! 🥰🍯❤️

Happy Book Week! 📚📖🛋
It being book week, my students have been asking me what character I'll choose to be.
But since I'm not teaching on campus on the book week parade day, I thought I'd bring back this memory - book week a few years ago - acting Mary Poppins.

My sister and partner in crime @fullnessofjoy16 - acting the voice of Mr. Banks.
📚 📖 Happy Book week!

An afternoon at Presence — an art installation by Olafur Eliasson.

I loved how the exhibition invited you to slow down, look, and notice deeply: light, colour, movement, and the way our perspective shapes what we see.

Moments like these remind me that beauty isn't something to rush past. Beauty has a way of drawing us out of ourselves. In a world that's always rushing, perhaps that's one of God's quiet gifts—to stop, to notice, and to wonder. It lifts our eyes and stirs gratitude for the Creator who fills the world with light, order, and wonder.

A beautiful afternoon at @qagoma shared with my sisters. ✨

An evening filled with beauty, elegance, emotion, brilliance, and the kind of music that lingers long after the final note.

A night at Queensland Performing Arts Centre @atqpac hearing the Queensland Symphony Orchestra @qsorchestra perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Konstantin Shamray, @konstantinshamray alongside Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, was something truly unforgettable.

Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto always feels like one of the most emotional works ever written to me. There’s something about it that feels so deeply personal — the opening almost sounds like someone slowly finding strength again after carrying heaviness for a long time. Then suddenly it launches into these huge sweeping melodies from the otchestra and the piano's gripping chordal patterns. All through the work there are special moments that are full of love, ache, nostalgia and hope all together. It says so much without words.

And Shostakovich 5th Symphony is powerful in such a different way. You can feel the tension underneath the music almost the entire time. Even in the louder triumphant moments, it never feels completely at peace. It’s like a work about survival, pressure, courage and holding onto humanity even in dark circumstances. It speaks volumes to our world today.

So intense and moving hearing these works live.

One of those nights that reminds me why music matters so much ✨

So grateful for evenings like these, shared with my sister Joy wandering through South Bank, taking in the city lights, and being reminded why live music matters so deeply. 🤍
