I had to get rid of my uterus cause it was cramping my style!

To function properly, the female human body requires a maximum hemoglobin count of 15.5 g/dL. At 10.1 you’re still good. At 7-8 g/dL a blood transfusion is required. Anything below 7 g/dL is classified as severe anemia. I was working, exercising, driving, coaching, drinking, traveling... with a hemo count of 3.8 g/dL....

I battled with fibroid for 5 years. Within the 18 months before my operation I had 5 blood transfusions - a cycle that lasted 56 days - a headache for 42 days - When lying down, I felt a cool sensation of waves flowing through my body. The parts of my body making direct contact with the bed always felt warm. So, if I’m on my right side, my right ear, arm, hip, leg and foot were warm whilst everything on the left was cold. It was blood - or lack there of. Imaging going to bed every night terrified you wouldn’t wake up. I wouldn’t wish this paranoia on anyone.

When you tell your doctor your concerns they feed you birth control to “regulate the breakthrough bleeding”. Hey, doc. Feeding my body estrogen and the fibroids feed and grow from estrogen is a bit counterproductive, no? And, what about when my cycle is on and the clots are so huge and heavy I can’t make it out of bed, from my desk or out of my car - to the restroom, without making a mess? What about my headaches? What about my blurred vision? Low iron? Night sweats? Lack of energy? Mood swings? Infertility? Loss of appetite? Heart palpitations? My body was FIGHTING to keep me alive. Birth control was the answer though, right? Wrong!

Listen to your body. If something feels wrong, it more than likely is. If your doctor isn’t giving you the answers you need, get a second, third and fourth opinion. Educate yourself. There are so many ways around being in this position. If you feel inclined to, please share your fibroid experiences with me.
