Sherry's (@funhomebuilding) guest bedroom from the spring '26 ORC took a year to come together, and wow was that moody dark blue was so worth the wait! Sherry started by creating a wall of built-in storage using IKEA PAX wardrobes, then tackled the doors with a pro-level painting process (scuff sanding, shellac priming, and rolling with a cabinet foam roller for a flawless finish). She chose a gorgeously dramatic dark blue for the whole room, giving the space so much depth and contrast from the bright and airy vibes in the rest of her home. To finish it off, she added a faux slat wall and a custom 3D-printed vent cover. This unfinished space is now a moody, modern retreat, and we're obsessed! 💙

Hi, it’s me. Rachel 👋🏻 I wanted to share this post, along with many of your projects these past 2 months, but I had to prioritize being present and honestly, I needed a little break. 🙃 Coincidentally, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and if you haven’t taken a break or haven’t given yourself time to reset, THIS IS YOUR SIGN! 🙌🏻
.
May is also Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month! 🥰 I know, there’s literally not even half a day left in May lol, but it was important to me to take this time to feature and celebrate some badass Asian women in this DIY Community. 👏🏻 (Thank you for sending me names of yourself/other DIYErs!) Also I know for a fact that I definitely missed many other fellow Asian DIYers in this list. So let me know your/their accounts in the comments and I can do a Part 2?! 😉

@funhomebuilding created this amazing looking multifunctional bench using IKEA Sektion cabinets 🙌

The steps she used are simple:
1. Assemble the IKEA unit. Cut out openings for outlets if you want to plug in a power strip or charger through the back/side of the bench.
2. Build a base using 2x4s and screws. You can sand and paint it or leave as is.
3. Add a bench top using plywood, cushion or any materials of your choosing. Edgeband the plywood so it looks more finished.
4. Attach everything and enjoy!

For this 80” long bench, @funhomebuilding used two 24” wide Sektion cabinets, one 30” wide Sektion cabinet, one 4x8 birch plywood and three 2x4 pine boards.
