Day 11 of the salt and soda kiln build @medaltaartists

One of today’s highlights was receiving the thermocouple sheaths. We’ll now have a permanent location for them on the back wall, which will make firing and monitoring much more convenient.

Meanwhile, the second door was hung from the beam and bricked up. The kiln is really starting to come together, one step at a time.

Day 5! Salt and soda kiln building @medaltaartists

Today was all about problem-solving. We're on the phone with the steel company, hoping to get the steel delivered ASAP, while tracking down all the components needed to hold the kiln together.

Our welder and technician worked incredibly hard cutting heavy-gauge steel to create a strong framework that keeps the bricks secure, even under the intense heat of firing. The base of the I-beam will also be reinforced for extra strength.

So much of today was spontaneous, with everyone involved collaborating, adapting, and figuring things out together. It's amazing to see a project like this come together through teamwork, skill, and determination.

August has been a busy but incredibly fun month!

We made our way out to @last_mountain_timber to find the perfect timber for our clients. Not only did they have everything we needed, but we also discovered stunning pieces at @funktionalpottery and gallery in the front space!

It was a productive and inspiring trip all around! 😍🌲

On our last day in SK we wandered out to Buena Vista / Regina Beach, where @funktionalpottery and Last Mountain Timber are located. The studio of Dee Funk shows SK ceramic artists including the wonderful @mtagseth and of course Dee’s own gorgeous work. Here’s an older piece by Tagseth, a cruet and a new bottle by Funk. I love how the bottle feels like it’s moving. Both of these vessels are so satisfying to look at, to hold.
