As we wrap up our Welcome FU2030 series, we wanted to leave you with a few pieces of advice that we hear again and again from our students and alumni.

College isn't about having everything figured out on day one. It's about being curious enough to explore, brave enough to try something new, and open enough to let yourself grow.

Say yes to the invitation. Go to the Open House. Take the class that catches your eye. Audition for the show. Introduce yourself to a professor. Join the club. Ask the question.

You don't have to do everything, but do something. The experiences that shape your college career are often the ones you never planned for.

And if you're wondering whether you'll find your place here, remember this:
Your people are looking for you, too.

Welcome to Furman. We can't wait to see the story you'll write over the next four years.

Didn't get the schedule you were hoping for? It happens to everyone and you are definitely not alone. Your first schedule isn't your forever schedule.

Schedules can change...a lot! Between now and the end of drop/add, students adjust their plans, seats become available, and advisors help students find courses that fit their goals.

Here are a few tips:
- Join the waitlist. Even if you don't get into the class immediately, being on the waitlist helps the Registrar understand where student demand exists.
- Talk with your Pathways Advisor. They can help you find alternatives that still keep you on track.
- Think about your GERs. There are multiple courses that fulfill the same requirement and you may discover a subject you never expected to love.
- Stay curious. You chose a liberal arts college because it is one of the few times in your life you'll have the chance to explore new disciplines just because they interest you.

And remember: your first-semester schedule doesn't define your college experience. The classes you take, the people you meet, and the opportunities you say "yes" to will all help shape your path.

You've got this, FU2030.

One of the biggest questions we hear from incoming students is: "What do all the course numbers mean?" Here's the good news: the number doesn't always tell the whole story.

While 100-level courses are designed to introduce a subject, many 200- and even 300-level courses are open to first-year students, especially if they don't have pre-requisites. And you might be bringing the pre-requisite in with you in the form of transfer credit or prior experience!

This fall, we're highlighting two great examples:
- THA-230 Readings in Dramatic Literature (TA GER, no prerequisites)
- THA-317 Lighting Design (no prerequisites, except a theatre background helps)

Don't be afraid to read the course descriptions and ask questions. College is all about discovering new passions and sometimes the class you didn't expect becomes your favorite.
