As the sun rises today and I open my eyes, I cannot believe a year has gone by. Wow. It feels like yesterday but at the same time my heart feels like it’s been aching for an eternity. I’m sorry for trying to be too strong this past year, for trying to hold it together when most days I just wanted to break down and cry on the inside. I’m sorry for being angry that you’re gone instead of sad. I’m sorry for possibly blocking your signs when all I really wanted was to feel your presence. I woke up this morning before my alarm to have a moment to myself to allow myself to reflect on this year and my love for you. I was greeted with a sunrise that was blinding and warm. I’m not at your favorite beach this morning , but I’m so grateful every day that I’m blessed to wake up and see the water, boats and a view that you would have loved. You would be so proud. I promise that this year I will look for more signs. I will allow myself to feel the warmth of the sun and know it’s you. I promise to embrace the moments of sadness and push away the anger. I promise to go fishing at least once. And most importantly, I promise to keep trying to always make you proud. God, I love you and miss you so much it hurts. But feeling this hurt reminds me just how much you loved me when you were here. Thank you for that. I love you, Poppyseed. May this day only bring a smile to all of us as we celebrate the man who loved to fish, but loved with family (especially his grandkids) even more. We miss you, Dad. 🖤🖤🖤
