Philadelphia’s approach to homeownership is getting national attention.

Civetta’s own Mike Tomasetti joined John Legend, Mayor Cherelle Parker, PHA President and CEO Kelvin Jeremiah, and FUSE CEO Melvin Carter for a tour of Sharswood and a conversation about expanding housing opportunities across the city.

The visit included a stop inside a Civetta Turn the Key home, bringing the conversation directly to the neighborhoods this work is impacting.

We’re proud to be part of Philadelphia’s effort to make new construction homeownership affordable for the people who call this city home.

Melvin W. Carter III launched CollegeBound Saint Paul to give children a start on college savings at birth. What can other communities learn from that experience?

On October 6, the former Saint Paul mayor and new
FUSE CEO joins Dave Uejio, Chief Operating Officer of Prosperity Now, and Dr. Nisha Botchwey, Dean of the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs, for VITACon’s closing conversation, From Resilience to Prosperity: Building a City Where Families Can Thrive.

Carter brings experience turning local policy into programs families can use. Botchwey brings a perspective on how public policy and the places people live shape their health and opportunities. Uejio brings experience at the intersection of consumer protection, financial services, and public policy. The conversation will explore how trusted institutions, accessible tax services, and early investments in children can strengthen families’ financial security.

That connection runs throughout VITACon: helping families claim tax credits, connecting them with savings opportunities, and strengthening the organizations they turn to for support. This closing conversation brings those efforts together with the decisions local leaders make about the communities families call home.

Join us in Minneapolis on October 6 to explore what that means for your work and your community.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is partnering with an embedded @fusecorps fellow to turn 1,000 city-owned parcels into affordable housing as part of her historic HOME Initiative.

I was delighted to spend the day with Mayor Parker, @johnlegend, and several other partners and funders to see how this important work is transforming Philly’s Sharswood neighborhood!

In case you missed it, the Bowtie Community Welcome Day marked a major milestone for Northeast LA: a 3.2-acre parcel of a former industrial railyard, remediated and on its way to becoming a thriving wetland and public park along the LA River in Glassell Park.

Spearheaded by @ca_conserve, in partnership with @castateparks, the event celebrated the near completion of the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration.

The speakers highlighted how the project’s progress was driven by key partnerships, public investment, and community engagement.

But we must also confront the risk that new parks could lead to higher costs of living, threatening to displace the very people who fought for the parks in the first place.

A resident from Northeast LA (NELA) put it plainly in the first Progress Report on the Taylor Yard Equity Strategy (TYES): “Now the land is going to be cleaned up; does that mean we can stay here?”

That question sits at the heart of the Taylor Yard Equity Strategy (TYES).

Together with @mrcaparks, @lacity, and a coalition of nonprofits and community organizations, TYES champions NELA’s vision for parks to prevent displacement, create local opportunities, honor the region’s diverse cultures, and uplift efforts to ensure that longtime residents and legacy businesses can remain rooted and thrive in place.

On behalf of The Nature Conservancy, we’d like to extend our gratitude to the partners who made the event and project possible:

Technical design by @stantec

Construction by El Capitan Environmental Services and managed by @geosyntecconsultants

Native plants grown by @theseedschoolla and planted by @lacorps

@clockshopla has been a key anchor for community members through programming.

@anahuakyouthsports has been The Nature Conservancy’s close partner in engaging frontline Spanish-speaking community members.

Crucial partners for the earliest phase of community engagement include @mujeresdelatierra @folarorg and the @prevention_institute

A special shoutout to:
@salt_la
@radar_inc
@clearcreekpartnership
@uclaioes
@mojavedesertlandtrust

and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy for their support and engagement on the project.

70 hackers. 20 mentors. 200 people in the room for Demo Day. And the Mayor of Albuquerque showed up. 🌵

@mayorkeller spoke at Desert Dev Lab 2026 right before the teams took the stage and the energy he brought into that room was everything. Warm, genuinely curious, and completely bought in on what this community had built together over 48 hours.

As he was heading out @thejackyso caught him outside and they talked about something that goes hand in hand with what Desert Dev Lab is all about — technology access for people who do not have it, using city spaces like the library to bring free events to more communities, and what it really means to grow a tech ecosystem that works for everyone in Albuquerque.

He also shared a personal story about high speed wifi that hit different coming from the guy running this city.

This is what showing up looks like.
Thank you @wesstnewmexico for hosting
Thank you @mayorkeller for your time and your heart. Thank you @thejackyso for making this moment happen. And thank you @oneabq and @fusecorps for always being in the room. 🙏🌵
