That’s a close to #smm2026 Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 for @bruck_lab. Two oral presentations, two poster presentations, a workshop, a video night entry, and an evening main panel appearance. Not too bad. Portland #smm2028 is next. #dolphins, #research #science @biologyatsfasu @callienlynn @futuredrtrahan @rayyy_08

As the last Monday of the semester, I attended my mentee, Olivia’s, Honors Thesis Defense, titled “Reading Between the Lines (of Arrested Growth): Growth variation among loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) with varying stranding conditions in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.”

Olivia has been an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Ramirez’s lab for 3 years now and has greatly contributed to our lab’s activities over the years.

She successfully defended her Honors thesis today, an incredible achievement!

Congratulations, Olivia!!! 🎉👏🐢🙌🏻 You did a fantastic job! It’s been an honor to be your mentor! Good luck in the next chapter of your career! @futuredrtrahan

Exploring Honokohau Beach in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on our first day 🌸🐢🌺

We saw SO many Hawaiian Green sea turtles, or honu,
eating algae off rocks and resting onshore. We also spotted a critically endangered Hawaiian Monk seal resting onshore. Make sure to stay at least 50ft away, they are protected species!

Witnessing the beauty of Hawaii’s landscapes and wildlife is humbling and empowering. We’re so grateful to be here. Thank you to everyone who has supported our work and travels! 💓🌺🐢🌸

STUDENT TRIFECTA!!! Wait, what?
What do a studio art major with a concentration in photography and a minor in journalism, @mags_.photography, @seaturtlehospital, an undergrad majoring in marine biology @futuredrtrahan and an Integrative, Comparative and Marine Biology Ph.D. candidate @seaturtleager have in common? A passion for sea turtles!

What began as a conversation about an inspiring assignment led to the students connecting and sharing a community rooted in passion. Check out Maggie Beck's story-telling skills in "From Moonlit Hatchlings to Marine Labs." 🔗 in bio.

Beck is a studio art major who aspires to be a @natgeo photojournalist, using images to amplify overlooked stories and connect people to the world around them. She works with @uncwilmington's photographic services and has received the Winston-Salem Humanitarian Award.
