FuturePIXEL @futurepixelhouse opens SXSW @sxsw with an immersive night session curated by Daniel Clayton (480p) inside the Mexic-Arte Museum — where house, IDM and experimental electronica meet real time generative visuals and spatial media.

Light, music, code and bodies moving between signals.

In the space will be featured films from @billie0cean (Billie Ocean), @semi_quasi_retired (Leo Won), a03959x.91_15, @sbhstudio (Bohan Sun) and @jodystillwater.

LA-based producer @alexparker headlines with a hybrid live set exploring the edges of IDM and experimental electronica — precise, immersive, and built for the moment.

@victorvegadj Victor Vega, a longtime pillar of San Francisco’s underground house scene brings his a hardware driven approach designed to keep us moving.

@helo.gry Héloïse, whose live analog compositions blend techno with machine-learning instrumentation.

Each musical act is supported by immersive audio reactive visuals provided by Daniel Clayton (480p), Yangqi Yang (YYSPACE) @youngeeeeeeeeee, and Andrew Butcher @5projectors.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to share something close to my heart at @futurepixelhouse x @sxsw 🌊

We’re more distracted than ever. Yet we keep designing for more.

My talk was a case for the opposite.

Strip away the unnecessary. Keep only what’s needed. Let nature be our teacher. I left the audience wondering— whether as a designer or even just a consumer of products — to ask ourselves “is it adding value to my life or adding more noise?” And “does it allow me to be more present or more distracted?”

I shared a personal project of mine as a case study to that philosophy — an underwater communication device built on the idea that sometimes more often than not, the best signals and notifications is a quiet one.

To every designer, artist, and creative I had the opportunity to have crossed paths with in Austin — thank you 🙏 Especially to @zhu.ziyuan @aimmlei and so many others for putting this together. Truly humbled to have been in the room with you all.

We stepped into @sxsw —and into a space where AI meets culture. 👾

@futurepixelhouse is more than an event.  It’s a concentration of talent, vision, and experimentation —a place where conversations turn into perspectives. ️️🎙️

From authorship to agency, the questions explored there are the same ones we work on through @capable.design.

Because today, design is not only about form — but about how we exist within intelligent systems. If intelligence becomes abundant, culture becomes the frontier. 🌐

Try and fail. Try again.

Last year at SXSW, I applied to be a speaker and didn’t make the cut. I was obviously disappointed, but made peace with the rejection.

This year my opportunity came. I was selected by @futurepixelhouse to be an official speaker. My talk “Designing Identity in the Age of AI” was about how knowing and being our true selves is the most important asset we have as creative humans in a world increasingly overtaken by artificial intelligence (and fascism). A highlight from the talk: Referencing the 90’s classic Cool Runnings as a good example of the link between success and being yourself.

To speak at @sxsw has been on my bucket list for years. Thank you to @zhu.ziyuan and her team for inviting me.

Grateful for all the conversations, collisions, and unexpected run-ins with friends and new faces in Austin 🤠

Lots of interesting demos and discussions, but as always the most valuable part was the people.

A few soundbites I’m still thinking about:

→ AI gives us speed, we bring the taste, judgment, and curation.
→ Winning startups need speed, but solid systems and durability matter more than ever.
→ Constraints create creativity. Limitations force better thinking.
→ Tech is built by humans for humans… but we often lose the humans along the way.

As everything becomes more automated and digital, the real advantage may actually move in the opposite direction:

→ Better relationships
→ Stronger communities
→ Real conversations
→ Trusted networks

AI scales execution and output.
Opportunity flows through trusted human relationships.

That feels like where the real leverage is going.

If we crossed paths, I’m glad we did. Grateful for everyone who made this trip meaningful. ❤️
