Planned shoot a couple years back with @atom_araullo
.
Shoot was very spontaneous and relax. No layouts in mind. No strobes or anything. Very simple shoot with just the window light. We were just chatting about a similar interest, coffee.

In celebration and in protest, mananatiling matibay at malakas dahil hindi rito natatapos ang ating laban.

Ipagpatuloy ang pagkamulat. Walang bibitiw. #WalangPipikit.

This is just one of the many takeaways I learned from FYT’s webinar on community journalism today. Through the decades, journalism never stopped facing (and hurdling) challenges—from oppositions, silencing, and even from people or institutions who tried making the profession a “laughing stock”. In fact, PH was named as one of the unsafest places to practice journalism. But journalism continues to fight for its “space” because it must and because it plays a critical role, especially on delivering crisis information.
A philosopher once said, “how vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live”. A journalist doesn’t just “sit down to write”—he/she “stands up” on tough days and on days which look easy but are equally challenging and chaotic for the neglected.
As Atom said, journalists are ordinary humans with emotions and we cannot simply set these aside in creating a story. We just couldn’t. But once we put on the “journalist’s hat”, we shall remind ourselves of the accountability that comes with this right of storytelling.
In times of confusion and losing direction, we go back to these important questions: why are we writing and who are we serving? #fyt
