slack:work assembly photos

Assembly for the pavilion in Fred Fuller Park was a two day joint effort between project designers Dylan Rundle @dr_undle, Josh Myers @joshmyers888, and Lauren Leemaster @laurenleemaster, local carpenter Anne Dargenio @annedargenio, and @kentcead design students.

Huge thank you to Assembly + Disassembly volunteers, this project would not have been possible without you.

slack:work was a 12’ x 24’ temporary pavilion that offered a gradient of postures for rest: laying, lounging, sitting, and perching. Only on public display for 48 hours, this installation coincided with Kent Ohio’s 33rd Annual “Art in the Park Festival”, and was awarded best in show. slack:work was an experimental architecture that existed within a small space and time. The fourteen-foot-tall pavilion was fully disassembled in one hour, left no trace on the site, and did not produce any material waste - each component was rented, reused, or recycled.

slack:work was a self commissioned project by +Detail @plusdetailco

We sampled industrial materials - tube and clamp scaffolding, debris fabric, and batting cage netting - and separated them from their associated use, allowing for new architectural expression and function. While scaffolding is often a means to an end, we instead made the versatile system an end to a means. The final installation in was highly sensitive to the life around it. Gentle breezes and dappled light wandered across the fabric, and the swaying of children in the sling chairs vibrated through the steel pipes. The glimmery canopy was slowly ornamented by autumn’s first red leaves, suspended in the air, just like you.

this past weekend, we rallied the troops in a joint effort to erect a project that was once an idea - a temporary installation that was to be put up and taken down in a single weekend.

they say if you love something you have to let it go, and i have truly enjoyed every single second of this experience. thank you @plusdetailco @joshmyers888 and @dr_undle for allowing me to participate in such a fulfilling project.

to one of my fondest memories of my undergraduate experience, to the friends of mine who showed up, and to the talented, creative mentors that i got to work alongside with - thank you, thank you, thank you!
