Pop Gun and HEART are pleased to present Spitting Image, an exhibition of digital prints by 16 artists.

Working in mediums initially designed in service of network efficiency, in formats optimized for online distribution, the artists in the exhibition create friction through a range of provisional punk strategies. Intelligent digital operations are complicated through poetic incoherence; compression is favored over fidelity.

Operating under conditions of network critique, documentation distribution itself acts as medium. The “spitting image,” produced through AI logics, rendered and exported, reveals itself only through reproduction: images of glossy prints taped in a dimly lit, anonymous space.

Always, documentation serves as an exhibition’s digital double. In Spitting Image, it becomes the sole method of viewing the show. Pics or it didn’t happen. Spitting Image is on view forever, exemplifying a DIY ethos that understands the realities of living in a world where images rule.

SULK CHICAGO is proud to present Channeled 8, curated by Allegra Harvard. Channeled 8 engages the dialogue of chakras as energy centers+electricity in the body with the inclusion of spirit/anima. Harvard extends this visualization to the Age of Aquarius where both electircal technology and the occult are heightened: the question, then, is if this age heralds a transcendence in the collective body/mind/spirit of society, or if this age will be disastrous. Kabbalistically speaking, the Age of the Aquarius marks the last era before the Age of the Messiah, where society either self-destructs from the emergence of chaos, technology, and the occult or transcends into a “new history”, so to speak. Through work with chakras, a person can heal their body, mind and soul in hopes to improve their lives or connect to the higher self. In comprehending the conditions of man throughout the Age of Aquarius, Harvard proposes the notion of the collective chakra— a theory likened to Jung’s collective unconscious that replaces the unconscious with chakratic hierarchies of the body: The societal chakras underscoring the temperments of civilization.
