#flashbackfriday Released on February 10, 1998, today marks the 25th anniversary of “The Beatnuts Remix EP: The Spot”, the second studio EP from The Beatnuts (@thebeatnuts) 🌯
Released on Relativity Records, “The Beatnuts Remix EP: The Spot” was the follow-up to the 1997 album “Stone Crazy”. Originally composed of members Psycho Les (@psycholes.official), JuJu (@junkyardjuju), and Fashion (@altariqiskoolfashistonysmalls) (later known as Al’ Tariq), The Beatnuts had emerged in the early ‘90’s as affiliates of the Native Tongues movement. Signing with Relativity through Violator management, The Beatnuts went on to release their debut EP “Intoxicated Demons” in 1993. After original member Fashion left the group in the mid ‘90’s, Psycho Les and JuJu continued on as a duo, releasing their breakthrough album “Stone Crazy” in 1997. The following year, The Beatnuts returned with their eight-song remix EP titled “The Spot”, including one newly recorded track titled ‘Treat$’. Despite having no singles, “The Beatnuts Remix EP: The Spot” landed ay number 52 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Production on the EP was handled entirely by The Beatnuts themselves. Guest features include Big Punisher (@officialbigpun), Cuban Link (@cubanlinkclk), Rawcotiks (@rawcotiks_butta_rx), A.L. (@alllyrical), and Nogoodus (@gabgotcha) 🌯
In 1999, The Beatnuts returned with their third studio album “A Musical Massacre”. More recently, the duo teamed up with West Cosst hip-hop group Tha Alkaholiks (@thaalkaholiks) to form the supergroup known as the Liknuts 🌯
