More of the people I love.

As the school year closes, I’ve been thinking a lot about what love really means, and I’ve finally been able to define it in the way I understand it. Of course 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 defines love, but I’ve always liked looking at things from a philosophical and humanistic perspective too, because it helps us understand our nature better.

Love exists in all of us, and we love our friends (not just our best friends). But we limit the phrase “I love you” as if love itself is rare. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because outwardly expressing love should feel special. But love being special does not mean it isn’t present often.

Love is in our friendships, our care for one another, our support, our presence, and our connection. At some point, we all started tying outward expressions of love almost exclusively to romance or intimacy, and that’s made people afraid to care deeply for one another in the open (which is common).

So tell somebody today, maybe a friend, that you love and appreciate them. Unless you know they’ll take it the wrong way. 😅

And for the people in this post, and the remarkable amount of people I’ve been blessed to meet and grow closer to this year:

I love you. But you probably already knew that. 😄✌️
