Ooooohhh, these came out better than expected!

Playing around with the designs by incorporating new, soft elements and I love the way the embroidery floss looks against the Walnut wood. 🧵💛🌟

UPIHC's Annual Pacific Health 5K this past October was a hit. Great seeing so many returning fun run, runners and new ones as well!

Grateful for all our community partners who were able to join us by tabling and providing resources 💙

Way to go- Salt Lake County's Health Department's for vaccinating 29 community members both adults & children.

And always, we are grateful to partner with Nani Taito who has captured many of UPIHC's community events 📸 #upihc #annualpacifichealth5k

Each year a few members of our UPIHC team have the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and participate in Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum’s annual VOICES conference. Thank you to our emeritus AmeriCorps Intern Gabby Raphael & Program Manager Freddy Lafo’ou for representing UPIHC at VOICES 💙

✨ Highlight picture of both attendees with President & CEO of APIAHF, Juliet Choi.

Freddy: “Being able to attend this year’s APIAHF Voices Conferences was truly refreshing to listen to key note speakers and network with our fellow peers at this conference. This conference has allowed me to really focus on areas of needs within our communities. I know that the resources that I have gained, I will be able to gladly share back home. With all of our continuing efforts to building a better tomorrow, I’m inspired to turn what I’ve learned into action that uplifts and strengthens our people.”

Gabby: “The APIAHF Voices Conference was an unforgettable experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to be surrounded my such uplifting and empowering AANHPI individuals. Connecting and networking with AANHPI organizations around the nation has spread my understanding of our community to a whole different level.”

Every month UPIHC will be highlighting ⭐️a member of our team. This month also get to know Gabriella (Gabi) Raphael - one of our awesome Americorp Interns from the University of Utah.

Currently, Gabi is in her third year of her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies with the College of Architecture and Planning. Alongside architecture she is also pursuing a Pacific Islanders Studies Certificate at the University of Utah. With a Kanaka Maoli and Mexican heritage, she draws inspiration from different cultural perspectives and incorporates a deep respect for land, community, and traditions in her educational and professional work.

In Gabi’s first semester working with UPIHC, she worked with organizations such as Know Your Lemons, American Cancer Society, Marmalade Library, East High School, and the Huntsman Cancer Institute. In her current second semester, she is exploring innovative ways to broaden her knowledge of health literacy and become educated on the health disparities in the NHPI population. She has also had the opportunity to join AANHPI Caucus Day on The Hill, sit on The Floor of the House of Representatives in the Utah Capitol as a guest of Ashlee Matthews, and join in on a health committee meeting with people like Jake Fitisemanu and Rosalba Dominguez.

Last week a few of our UPIHC team members got to celebrate with one of our organization’s founding partners @ntas_801 NTAS, National Tongan American Society for their 30th Anniversary. We are so grateful for all the work they do not only for our Tongan 🇹🇴 communities in Utah, but for all of Utah’s Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders. Congratulations to 30 years 🎉 and many more NTAS! Ofa atu! #nationaltonganamericansociety
